The NFL preseason game between the Detroit Lions and the Atlanta Falcons had to be suspended following a player’s scary on-field injury.

On Friday, Aug. 8, Lions player Morice Norris Jr. was attempting to tackle Falcons running back Nathan Carter when he suffered injuries to the head and neck area. At the time, the Lions were leading 17-10 at the Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta, the NFL and Sky Sports reported.

The 24-year-old was tended to for around 20 minutes by medical staff on the field before being transported on a stretcher into an ambulance to Grady Memorial Hospital, according to the outlets.

Following Norris’ injuries, the game was officially suspended with 6.19 minutes remaining, per the NFL.

The Lions shared an update on X, saying, “Morice Norris is in stable condition and has feeling and movement in all his extremities. He will remain at Grady Memorial Hospital in Atlanta overnight for observation.”

“We would like to thank the Atlanta Falcons organization, the EMS team at Mercedes-Benz Stadium and the doctors and staff at Grady for their support,” the team concluded.

Norris signed as an undrafted free agent with the Lions in the spring of 2024. Last season, he participated in two games and recorded three tackles during the game on Friday night, per the NFL.

“Thoughts and prayers are with Mo Norris,” Lions head coach Dan Campbell said in a press conference after the game on Friday, per ESPN. “He’s at the hospital. I’ll just have to leave it at that, but when something like that happens, it puts things into perspective. So, we are just praying for Mo.”

Campbell confirmed that Norris is “breathing” and “talking” following the incident. “It’s good. He’s got some movement so and now they’re running more tests,” he said, before describing Norris as “a class act.”

“We agreed that it just didn’t feel right to finish that game,” Campbell added.
