Liv Tyler Says She and Her Siblings Prioritize ‘Parenting Over Anything’ Due to How ‘Busy’ Their Parents Were

Liv Tyler says parenting takes priority in her and her siblings’ lives.

The Incredible Hulk actress, 47, recently sat down with Oliver and Kate Hudson for the latest episode of their Sibling Rivelry podcast and discussed how important parenting is in her and her siblings’ lives. Tyler, who’s the daughter of 77-year-old rocker Steven Tyler and Bebe Buell, is a proud mom to three children: sons Sailor, 10, and Milo, 20, and daughter Lula, 7.

“We all saw our parents like really busy working and like potentially [their] career was always sort of first,” she said. “It was like there was certain things that had to be accepted, and maybe parenting [was] not always first. And I would say that all four of us sibs, we’ve really prioritized parenting over anything at the detriment of relationships, career, whatever.”

For the actress, motherhood has played a key role in helping her to better understand herself and what she’s capable of.

“My favorite thing about being a parent is that I learn so much from the push-and-pull dynamic of mother and child,” she told More magazine in 2015 for its October cover story. “Having children, I learned about my own strength.”

Liv hinted that part of that strength comes from the ability to juggle kids and a career.

“I feel like I’m conducting a giant orchestra, because there’s so many moving parts. It’s like, ‘Over there, you guys do that!’ And then, ‘Over there, you do this! All together now!’ ” Tyler explained. “It’s kind of what it feels like to be a mom, isn’t it? In the modern world?”

Liv has three siblings: sisters Mia, 46, and Chelsea, 36, and brother Taj, 34. Her dad, who rose to fame as the lead singer of Aerosmith in the 1970s, tries to get the whole family together for holidays.

“Right now, I’m still really busy. Liv is in England — I went and saw her last year with the whole family. It’s just a little hard,” he told PEOPLE in January 2018. “We try to get together for Christmas and it’s fun, it’s beautiful. What we got is beautiful.”

On Steven’s 70th birthday that same year, his daughters all paid tribute to him on social media. “You’re my favorite man to laugh with, to close our eyes, lean our heads back and shake em side to side when we eat something insanely delicious with, tell dirty jokes with, cry, hug, pet, be mad at, be happy with and most of all just love,” Mia wrote on Instagram.

Liv described her rockstar dad as “a force to be reckoned with, a true inspiration and when you open your mouth to sing you light up the whole world,” while Chelsea said, “I love you and thank god every day for you.”
