Love Is Blind truly proved to be a success for season 8 participants Kylie Schuelke and Brian Sumption — even if they weren’t featured on the show.
“It felt almost like a weight off our shoulders,” Brian, 30, recently told Netflix of sharing his engagement news, according to USA Today. “Now we can do our own thing and figure out our lives on our own.”
Brian and Kylie, 28, were among the Minneapolis-based contestants who sought to find The One in the season 8 pods. While they were not shown on any of the Love Is Blind episodes, Brian and Kylie left the experiment as a couple.
“From the pods to reality — what a journey,” Kylie and Brian wrote in a joint Instagram post last month, posing in front of his locally owned wine bar. “Grateful for every moment, every lesson, and everyone I met along the way. Love Is Blind — you were a wild, unforgettable ride.”
In addition to Kylie and Brian, there were six other pairs who got engaged during season 8. Only five — Daniel Hasting and Taylor Haag, Joey Leveille and Monica Danús, Dave Bettenburg and Lauren O’Brien, Ben Mezzenga and Sara Carton, as well as Devin Buckley and Virginia Miller — were followed out of the pods.
“We told more stories than we’ve ever told. We told the stories of 16 people this season, which is why we have more pod episodes,” executive producer Chris Coelen told Variety in February. “There were two other engaged couples we didn’t follow.”
He added, “It’s always how the edit works out. We film everything and then we go back and look at how we got there. We put the pieces together. As always, we’re trying to pick the stories that resonate and that we feel are worthy of telling because they lean into authenticity.”
Kylie and Brian, for their part, harbor no ill will that their love story is missing from the final Love Is Blind edit.
“Ultimately, we went on Love Is Blind to find love — and we did just that,” Kylie told Netflix ahead of the season 8 finale. “The experiment worked for us, and now we get to write our own story.”

Before Brian popped the question, he developed a “really effortless” connection with medical student Kylie in the pods.
“We had a very similar sense of humor and everything really flowed naturally,” he recalled to the outlet. “After we aligned on the important aspects of life, we didn’t really take things too seriously and just had fun together.”
Once they came face-to-face in the reveal tunnel, Kylie likened the first meeting to love at first sight.
“The lights were so bright, so I couldn’t see anything at first, but as we got closer, I was like, ‘Oh, he’s cute,’” she quipped. “For some reason, I was keeping my expectations low.”
