The future is bright for Madison Marilla and Tyler White.

Season 4 of Love on the Spectrum documented a special moment in the couple’s relationship, with Tyler proposing to Madison while they revisited the location of their first date to commemorate their one-year anniversary.

After months of keeping the engagement under wraps, they are telling PEOPLE all about the momentous occasion.

“I felt like the puzzle was coming together,” Madison says. “Because earlier in the season when Tyler pulled my parents aside and it was for a long time, I kind of got a feeling that day that he was asking my parents for their blessing. And when he said in Nashville, ‘We'll do more trips forever and ever,’ I just kinda had a feeling that the pieces of the puzzle were coming together.”

Tyler remembers the day as being “very emotional,” noting that he “couldn’t help but cry” when Madison read aloud the letter he wrote to her. “I'm getting emotional just thinking about it right now,” he says.

When it comes to wedding planning, the pair say they haven’t started yet and don’t plan on rushing into anything.

“We're gonna wait until the timing is right,” Madison explains, as Tyler continues, “Yes. We're definitely waiting on timing and [to] get through the speed bumps and all that good stuff and get to a point where I can provide for her. And also, we've had to keep it secret because of television, and it kinda makes it hard when you have to keep it a secret.”

Still, they have taken other steps in the relationship to bring them closer to marriage. This season, viewers saw Madison relocate to Plant City, Fla., to be closer to Tyler. “Two or three miles down the road from my house,” he reveals.

Madison further shares what their day-to-day life looks like as fiancés: “We attend church together every Sunday. We see each other daily.”

“We go on lots of dates,” Tyler adds. “There have been times we'd go get something quick to eat and then go see a movie after church on Sunday, and I get her for Wednesday night. We go eat and then go to church and I take her back home. And we've gotten to do a lot of fun stuff together as well, like we go to Busch Gardens regularly.”

Since meeting on the hit Netflix series on a blind date during season 3, Madison says her relationship with Tyler has changed her life in many ways.

“I would say one thing that I've really benefited from Tyler is that, as someone who struggles with developmental and emotional delays, it has been very good for me to be with a guy who is an old soul and who is emotionally mature,” she explains. “That has really helped me grow and get into more age-appropriate things. Like, for example, I never thought I'd get into historical documentaries.”

Tyler, who calls being engaged the “best feeling ever,” says his favorite quality of Madison’s is her zest for life.

“The thing I love about her, the way she gets excited, her smile, the way she dresses and how she's such a sweetheart,” he says. “Of course, she's helped me to be more blunt and not hide my feelings, and I think I've really benefited from being around her. One thing we've learned about each other is how to communicate.”

Love on the Spectrum is streaming on Netflix.
