Lukas Gage to Open Up About Sex, Addiction and More in New Memoir ‘I Wrote This for Attention’

Lukas Gage is catching fans’ attention with his upcoming memoir.

The actor, 29, announced his book, titled I Wrote This for Attention, on Friday, January 24. “The book is inspired from my many journals I kept as a kid, where I wrote about a lot of things that I never shared with anybody else,” Gage exclusively teases to Us Weekly. “In this book, I start talking about it, and you can see why sometimes it felt safer not to.”

According to the book’s description, Gage decided to write about his life after going through “one of the s—-iest weeks of his life.”

“His beloved grandmother was dying. And Lukas was sitting next to his father, a man who had been mostly absent in his son’s childhood,” the synopsis reads, stating that Gage was also “across the street from a building in Century City, where months prior, Lukas signed a prenup — paperwork for a marriage that crumbled spectacularly and publicly.” (Gage’s ex-husband, Chris Appleton, filed for divorce after six months of marriage in November 2023.)

The dark moment caused Gage to “doom scroll to see what random people on the internet were saying about him,” only to discover trolls accusing him of craving attention. According to Gage, they were correct.

“Lukas Gage was no stranger to going viral. He loved attention,” the description reads before citing Gage’s past behavior, which includes setting his room on fire as a child, flirting with women at Hooters and his infamous NSFW scene from The White Lotus season 1. “Lukas was scared of attention and yet he craved it more than anything in the world.”

In the book, Gage will explore everything from “sex and death, fame and familial strife, drug abuse and Raya.” The description continues: “I Wrote This for Attention is a remarkable achievement of healing, of vaping through therapy sessions, and of having the courage to forgive the family that hurt you and set yourself free.”

Gage began his Hollywood career in the early 2010s with roles in The Millionaires, Scouts Guide to the Zombie Apocalypse, American Vandal and T@gged. In recent years, he has appeared in projects such as Euphoria, Love, Victor, You, Fargo, Dead Boy Detectives, Smile 2 and Companion.

He has also made headlines for his and Appleton’s messy divorce, as an insider exclusively told Us in November 2023 that infidelity led to their split. The pair reached a divorce settlement in June 2024.

Gage’s memoir has received rave reviews from some of his celebrity friends and colleagues. “This book is raw, provocative, chaotic, and — dare I say — slutty. Wait, sorry, that was me describing Lukas Gage,” It Ends With Us author Colleen Hoover quipped in a review on the book’s Simon & Schuster website. “The book, though, is every bit of that and more. A must-read for anyone who’s a fan of Lukas (or even if you can’t stand him). Or, if you’ve never heard of him — which, honestly, is most of you — just read it anyway.”

The White Lotus creator Mike White joked in his review: “For a self-proclaimed pathological liar, Lukas Gage is brutally honest. Riley Keough called the book “as unhinged and heartwarming as Lukas is,” while Molly Shannon wrote that “few books have the power to move me to both laughter and tears, but this one did.”

I Wrote This for Attention hits bookshelves on Tuesday, October 14.
