Madi Prewett and her husband, Grant Troutt, didn’t decide on their daughter’s name, Hosanna, until “right before” her birth in January.
“We could not figure it out for the life of us,” Troutt, 28, shared on an episode of Prewett’s “Stay True” podcast on Monday, March 24. “It was hard man because I’m a feeler and it’s gonna hit me. I’m gonna know what her name is going to be.”
Prewett, 29, would keep suggesting names to Troutt, but he kept telling her all the names didn’t “feel right.”
“So finally like a month before we finally sat down and had dinner and you had these notecards so we wrote down 20 names, the meaning of the names and the nicknames and Madi was like, ‘You will pick three,’” Troutt, who has been married to Prewett since October 2022, said before listing their top three names they were deciding between. “We had Hosanna, we had Psalm, and we had Selah, which is like the break in the Psalms, which means, like, ‘everlasting worship.’”

Troutt went on to explain that he and Prewett picked the name Hosanna, taped it to their mirror and started “passing it every day and praying over it.”
“We had friends come over and we still hadn’t decided and they were, like, ‘We’re not leaving her until we pray and ask God to give you the name,’” he recalled, noting that they started praying over Prewett and said they felt the name “Hosanna” to be the right fit. “And then we prayed at the end of the night and we both felt Hosanna and it was just this name that is the ultimate form of prayer and worship to Jesus.”
Prewett and Troutt shared that Hosanna means “Save us, Oh God” and “Thank you for saving us.”
“I told Madi the encapsulation of the Gospel is ‘save us, I need saving,’ and ‘thank you for saving me,’” Troutt said. “So the name Hosanna is the ultimate name of praise and worship. … Names are destiny shaping. … We just really felt a lot of weight to name her something that is going to be so much praise in God. I’m already seeing it in her that she is Hosanna.”

Prewett shared in January that she and Troutt had welcomed their first child.
