Magician David Blaine will go to any lengths for a good magic trick.
Chatting with PEOPLE for its One Last Thing page in this week’s issue, Blaine, 52, recalled the last tattoo he got. “I did one with disappearing ink with this incredible tattoo artist in New York City, Bang Bang,” he says. “I made a playing card prediction. And I haven’t used it yet. As a matter of fact, I even forgot that I did it because it’s invisible.”
The tattoo can be revealed “with a certain light and it shows up,” Blaine explains. “And you just reminded me that I have this tattoo on my left wrist because it’s invisible. So I have an invisible tattoo that I didn’t even remember until you just told me.”
Blaine, who just extended his Las Vegas residency and is now starring in Nat Geo’s new series David Blaine Do Not Attempt shared more of his “lasts” with the magazine:
Last time I sang out loud
I sang “Happy Birthday” to somebody onstage in my show, but I’m a terrible singer. I was very apologetic afterwards. And I like to sing Dolly Parton songs like “Jolene” in front of my daughter [Dessa, 14] to make her laugh.
Last indulgence
I’m allergic to dairy, but I live half of the year in Paris, so I’m always eating my favorite cheese. But then I’m always sneezing and itching my eyes afterward.
Last moment of self-care
I go to the gym and sit in the sauna for as long as possible. I’ve stayed in there a few hours. Before I throw water on the coals, I say really annoying jokes like, “Are you okay if I put some jalapeños on that salad?” And nobody laughs.
Last magic trick I did
I was at rehearsal for Jimmy Kimmel and ended up doing magic for the entire staff. And on the airplane here, same thing. I was doing magic for everybody working on the plane and all the people in line for the bathroom. That’s a constant. I fall asleep with a deck of cards in my hands and wake up with cards stuck to my face and body almost every day.
