A man stepped inside his South Australia home and almost stepped right onto a dangerous snake.
According to the New Zealand Herald, Folco Faber had just returned to Adelaide, Australia, from a trip to New Zealand when he encountered an eastern brown snake, the world’s second most venomous land snake.
Faber told the outlet that after returning home, he focused on reconnecting with his cat Lily, so he scooped her up, opened blinds, and started settling back into his abode. Security footage from inside Faber’s home shows him shuffling in his socks when an eastern brown snake, which likely found its way into the house while Faber was away, emerges from under the furniture and slithers near the man’s feet.
Faber added that he didn’t notice the snake at first and didn’t realize how close he was to stepping on the highly venomous reptile until he looked down and saw its dark brown body slinking around the floor next to him.
In response, Faber said he sprinted away from the snake, still clutching his cat, to the room’s far end.

Faber told the New Zealand Herald that seeing the snake in his home was the “shock of his life” and that he couldn’t stop checking under furniture until the snake catcher he called arrived.
The snake catcher humanely contained the snake and removed it from Faber’s home. During the removal, the reptile expert noticed the snake had sustained multiple wounds, which appeared to be cat bites.
The snake catcher and Faber believe that Lily the cat attacked the snake while Faber was gone and that she is lucky to be alive after toying with such a dangerous animal.
