Original cast members of the popular Scream franchise — including David Arquette, Jamie Kennedy, Matthew Lillard, Dermot Mulroney and Skeet Ulrich — certainly do, and on Sunday, March 30, hit up 90s Con for a panel, moderated by PEOPLE’s Breanne L. Heldman, to discuss their horror legacy and the upcoming Scream 7 while also taking questions from fans.
When asked about his return to the franchise, Lillard shared, “I will say, I can’t say anything about it, obviously. But I am very excited and slightly terrified to be back because all I can do is really screw up a legacy that we have.”
“I could really suck, and so that’s my fear. My fear is that I come back and sort of punish something that I could never have touched and been just fine. I hope I don’t f it up for everyone.”

Since the first Scream movie premiered in 1996, the initial project has been deemed a cult classic, and its subsequent franchise — with five sequels and a seventh installment underway, plus a TV series that centers on its villain Ghostface — has made a major impact on the slasher genre.
Across the Scream films, several noteworthy stars have faced off against the white-masked killer, including Drew Barrymore, Sarah Michelle Gellar, Emma Roberts, Patrick Dempsey and Jenna Ortega, among others.
Scream 7 arrives in theaters on Feb. 27, 2026, and will be directed by Kevin Williamson, who wrote the script for the original 1996 film. The project will include the highly anticipated return of many familiar faces, including Courteney Cox, Lillard, Scott Foley and Neve Campbell, the latter of whom starred in the original 1996 Scream and all of its sequels except for Scream 6, due to a pay dispute.
Campbell told PEOPLE in June 2024 that she was “really grateful” to have been asked to come back “in a respectful way.”
“Those movies have been such a big part of my life and it means so much to me, and I was sad to miss the last one, to not be a part of it,” Campbell said. “I’m grateful to be able to step in into Sidney’s shoes again and tell her story.”
