Task is HBO’s latest dark drama, but off-screen, many of its cast members lead much less complicated personal lives.
The seven-episode crime series follows Tom (Mark Ruffalo), an FBI agent who is put in charge of the task force investigating a string of violent home invasions, led by garbage collector Robbie (Tom Pelphrey).
On-screen, Ruffalo’s character is returning to work after his wife’s death — but in real life, he’s been married to Sunrise Coigney for over two decades. Meanwhile, Pelphrey is engaged to The Big Bang Theory actress, Kaley Cuoco.
A few days after the Task premiere, Pelphrey shared during a PEOPLE in 10 interview that one of the “great things about the job” was that he rented a house for his family nearby, and his fiancée and daughter, Matilda, were able to visit him on set.
“It was a very special job in that sense,” Pelphrey continued. “I really felt a sense of home.”

Mark Ruffalo and Sunrise Coigney
Ruffalo, who stars as FBI agent Tom, felt love at first sight when he saw his future wife — Coigney — walking on a street in Los Angeles in 1998.
“I saw her and was like, I’m going to marry that girl,” he told Men’s Journal in December 2017.
The Task star and Coigney tied the knot in June 2000 and later welcomed three children together.
In June 2023, he shared a heartfelt tribute on Instagram in honor of 23 years of marriage with his “friend,” “partner,” and “lover.”
“Everything beautiful in our lives comes from you,” he captioned the post. “You also happen to keep this whole shambling enterprise on the rails. I admire you and love you.”
Tom Pelphrey and Kaley Cuoco
Pelphrey stars as Robbie, a garbage collector by day and robber gang leader by night. Off-screen, he is engaged to fellow actress Cuoco, who shared in a May 2022 USA Today interview that they met through their mutual manager at an Ozark premiere.
“I was standing with Andrea and Tom walked in, and I heard his voice, and I turned around, and it was like my life was over, or just starting. It hit me,” she said. “It was love at first sight. We were immediately connected. I do feel like I’ve known him my whole life, but I wasn’t ready for him. We’re ready to build a life together.”
Their August 2024 engagement came a little over a year after they welcomed their first daughter, Matilda. In September 2025, he opened up to PEOPLE about life with Cuoco and their daughter, which he described as heaven.
“There’s challenges, but if you would’ve told me 15 years ago that I could be with the love of my life and have the most perfect baby and get to do what I love, it’s wild. You’re living your dream. And I’m very conscious of that.”
As for whether the two actors will ever be on-screen together, he told PEOPLE that they are “interested in that,” but it has to “be the right thing.”
“Kaley tends to live more comedically, whereas, you know, often people don’t let me within 10 feet of a comedy,” he joked.
Raúl Castillo and Alexis Forte
Raúl Castillo, who portrays Cliff in Task, is engaged to Alexis Forte.
In August 2022, he reposted Forte’s carousel of photos on his Instagram, announcing that “she said yes” after he asked her to marry him during a trip to Portugal.
As she shared in the caption, they had been together for nine years at the time.
According to his Instagram, she has stepped out with him for several Hollywood date nights.
Emilia Jones
Emilia Jones plays Maeve, Robbie’s 21-year-old niece, who was left to look after her younger cousins.
As for her life off-screen, Jones keeps her romances out of the spotlight. However, she has been vocal about which of her industry fellows she has a “crush on.”
“I watched The Notebook and fell in love with Ryan Gosling. I guess everyone did, right? He’s still my crush now, I would say,” she told W Magazine in January 2022, adding that she has a “huge girl crush” on Viola Davis.
Fabien Frankel
Fabien Frankel portrays Anthony, a member of Tom’s task force in the FBI.
He has not spoken about his romantic life. However, during an October 2022 conversation with The New York Times, he opened up about his philosophy on love while discussing his House of Dragon character Ser Criston’s relationship with Rhaenyra.
“First love is first love. I think everyone will always love the person that they fell in love with for the first time,” he said. “From the first time you hear a beautiful piece of music, you’ll always love it, even if you’ve heard it a hundred times, because you remember that first time you heard it. So yeah, he will always love Rhaenyra.”
Alison Oliver and Josh O’Connor
Alison Oliver, who portrays task force member Lizzie, has been romantically linked to The Crown actor Josh O’Connor since November 2024.
The pair haven’t spoken about their relationship, but were seen on a PDA-filled public outing in London in May 2025.
She also told The Times in September 2025 that she was being intentional about keeping her love life out of the spotlight.
“I’m just setting a little rule for myself,” she said. “Your personal life is your personal life. I’m just choosing not to talk about that.”
Thuso Mbedu
Thuso Mbedu, who portrays task force member Aleah, appears to be single in real life.
In November 2022, she addressed online speculation about her love life in a post on X, writing, “Yes, I’m 31. No, I’m not married.”
