Meg Ryan Lists Her Montecito Mansion for $19.5 Million After Complete Renovation: Details (Exclusive)

Meg Ryan is ready for a change of scenery after listing her Montecito, California, home, Us Weekly can exclusively confirm.

The Sleepless in Seattle actress, 63, initially listed the two-acre hillside estate in February for $22.5 million. The following month, Ryan dropped the price to $19.5 million.

Ryan purchased the secluded picturesque property in August 2021 for $9.5 million, which means she would pocket a $10 million profit if she got asking price.

Since buying the stately home with a long, gated driveway, Ryan has done a complete top to bottom renovation. The original 6,500 square foot layout consisted of five bedrooms, five bathrooms, and a guest house.

Meg Ryan has been an acting force ever since scoring her breakout role in 1981’s Rich and Famous. While Ryan played a supporting role to Jacqueline Bisset and Candice Bergen’s respective characters, she landed her big break eight years later when she portrayed leading lady Sally Albright in When Harry Met Sally. “[The] comedy of […]

After an extensive facelift, the actress added nearly 3,000 square feet to the posh property — which boasts famous neighbors like Prince Harry and Meghan Markle and Gwyneth Paltrow — by enhancing the entryway with a porch that looks out to the Pacific Ocean, while three cozy fireplaces were added to the living room, primary bedroom, and patio.

In addition to sea views, the compound has stunning mountain vistas from all angles.

Among Ryan’s other renovations in the main house are an open concept layout between the foyer, kitchen, and dining rooms, and a chef-inspired kitchen featuring white marble countertops, partial open shelving, a giant island, custom dark wood cabinets, and a coffee nook.

The sophisticated beach house vibe also includes a charming cabin guest house which can be used for visitors or as a fitness space. The white and dark wood-accented kitchen spills into the open studio-style living space.

Showing off Ryan’s elegant eye for design that elevates every room, the master features a white marble fireplace, windows beaming with natural light, and a private balcony.

The adjoining bathroom has a matching white marble bathtub, gray and white woodland wallpaper, a custom vanity, and views of the sprawling and lush green natural surroundings, including manicured oak, fruit, and ornamental trees.

Another outdoor back patio, complete with snug fireplace, is accented with plenty of seating and a porch swing for two, while playful pendant lights and rich dark hardwood floors can be found in nearly every room throughout the house.

The When Harry Met Sally star is no stranger to home projects. She previously renovated another Montecito home in 2021. When she quietly flipped the farm-style house — complete with a new kitchen and garden — she made an impressive $8.3 million profit.

The You’ve Got Mail actress previously spoke about her love of designing and renovating homes after working on her New York City loft in 2017. At the time, she had renovated seven different properties.

“I know it sounds crazy to most people, the idea of renovating that many houses,” Ryan told Architectural Digest in July 2017. “But I love renovating. I think it’s tied to living the actor’s life.”

Her son, Jack Quaid, whom she shares with ex-husband Dennis Quaid, jokingly calls his mom’s process being “Meg-anized.” Ryan also has a daughter, Daisy, whom she adopted in 2006.

She explained, “As an actor, you are so rarely in control. You’re always saying words that someone else has given you, standing in a room that someone else has designed, to create a reality that someone else wants to see. But with decorating I am in control; it’s a chance for me to bring my vision into the world.”
