Reports of Meghan Markle and Princess Kate Middleton’s fight over Princess Charlotte’s bridesmaids dress have resurfaced thanks to a new royal biography.
In Tom Quinn’s biography, Yes, Ma’am: The Secret Life of Royal Servants, he discussed the reports that Meghan and Kate, both now 43, disagreed over the tailoring of Charlotte’s dress at the Duchess of Sussex’s 2018 wedding to Prince Harry.
“I can tell you that all the papers and commentators got this wrong, the truth is that as with many of these spats between sisters, brothers or even sisters-in-law, both sides were really upset,” Quinn said, according to Newsweek.
He continued, “The truth is that during the discussions about the bridesmaid’s dress, Meghan said a few things she regretted and Kate said a few things she later regretted, but it was all in the heat of the moment. Both women were crying their eyes out!”

Giving the full picture. Prince Harry felt “strongly” about including texts exchanged between Princess Kate and Meghan Markle in his book, a source exclusively reveals in the new issue of Us Weekly. The Duke of Sussex, 38, released Spare, his debut memoir, on January 10 — but its chapters were already making headlines before hitting […]
Meghan addressed the speculation she made Kate cry in her 2021 tell-all interview, sharing, “The reverse happened.”
“A few days before the wedding she was upset about flower girl dresses and it made me cry. It really hurt my feelings,” she explained, noting that Kate apologized with flowers and a letter. “She did what I would do if I knew that I hurt someone, right, to just take accountability for it.”
Harry, for his part, claimed in 2023’s Spare that Kate texted Meghan four days before the wedding, writing, “Charlotte’s dress is too big, too long, too baggy. She cried when she tried it on at home.”
Harry, now 40, alleged that Meghan suggested the dress be seen by a tailor who was “standing by” at Kensington Palace, but Kate claimed “all the dresses need to be remade.” Harry alleged there was a “back and forth” between Meghan and Kate via text.

“A short time later, I arrived home and found Meg on the floor. Sobbing. I was horrified to see her so upset but didn’t think it was a catastrophe,” Harry wrote, noting that Kate apologized the next day.
Following the release of Spare, the tailor who assisted with the bridesmaids’ dresses claimed he wasn’t aware of a disagreement between Meghan and Kate.
“If anything happened in the background, it didn’t happen in front of me. But yes, weddings are stressful at the best of times — and especially one at this high level; you’ve got to respect that,” Ajay Mirpui told the Daily Mail. “They were faced with a problem like anyone gets at a wedding, with last-minute hitches. I can understand why anybody would be upset if the dresses weren’t fitting — it’s nerve-wracking.”
Mirpui claimed that his team “had to work tooth and nail for four days” to alter the dresses, leaving Windsor Castle the night before the wedding.
“I feel for them all because you wouldn’t want the children to go out on a big stage in an ill-fitting dress — and that’s what they were,” he said. “All six bridesmaids’ dresses had to be fixed, and we did it.”
