Met Gala 2025: Date, Time, Theme, Stars and How to Watch

Since 1948, the Met Gala has raised money for the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute in Manhattan.

It’s also become the Super Bowl of fashion, with high-profile guests attending in specially made outfits created for the event by some of the most prestigious designers in the world.

The Met Gala is also an event that largely occurs behind closed doors. If you’re not on the list, chances are good that you won’t see what’s happening on the inside.

This year’s event is right around the corner, and Watch With Us is sharing everything you need to know about the 2025 Met Gala.

When Is This Year’s Met Gala Taking Place?

The Met Gala is traditionally held on the first Monday in May. This year, the date is Monday, May 5. Arrivals will begin at 5:30 p.m. EST/2:30 p.m. PST.

Which Stars Will Be Attending the Met Gala?

Unlike awards shows, the Met Gala doesn’t announce its guests ahead of time. The celebrity arrivals on the red carpet are usually meant to be a surprise.

Invited guests usually include actors and actresses, musicians, sports stars, social media influencers, businessmen and women and politicians. Some guests can get in without fitting into any of those qualities, but tickets to last year’s Met Gala reportedly cost $75,000.

Will the Met Gala Be Televised?

No. While the red carpet arrival highlights will likely be in the news, no cable or broadcast network is televising the Met Gala. However, there is still a way to watch it.

Where Can the Met Gala Be Watched?

Since Vogue is running the event, it will be exclusively live-streamed on the magazine’s YouTube channel and official site. The livestream will start at 6 p.m. EST/3 p.m. PST.

E! will also live-stream all the red carpet arrivals on Live From E! with hosts Christian Siriano, Maria Taylor, Yvonne Orji, Zanna Roberts Rassi and Elaine Welteroth. E!’s coverage will be available on E! Online, Peacock and YouTube channels for E! News, Access Hollywood and Today.

Who Are the Co-Chairs of the Met Gala?

Vogue editor-in-chief Anna Wintour has been the co-chair of the Met Gala since 1995, with only two exceptions. Actor Colman Domingo, race car driver Lewis Hamilton, and musicians ASAP Rocky and Pharrell Williams are the other co-chairs this year. Los Angeles Lakers player LeBron James is also an honorary co-chair, although the NBA playoffs schedule may prevent him from attending.

What Is the Theme of This Year’s Met Gala?

Andrew Bolton, the chief curator of The Costume Institute at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, announced that the name of this year’s theme is “Superfine: Tailoring Black Style.” It will revolve around the evolution of Black fashion. Attendees and their designers usually have a lot of leeway on how to interpret that theme into the outfits.
