Mich. Woman With Dozens of Dead, Malnourished Animals on Property Arrested After Biting State Trooper, Police Claim

State police say cats, rabbits, pigs and goats were found dead, with dozens of live animals seized

Dozens of dead and malnourished animals were discovered at a rural Michigan property — and a state trooper was bitten on the wrist during the investigation that followed, police said.

According to a Michigan State Police release, troopers from the MSP Gladstone Post received a report on Feb. 3 alleging animal neglect involving multiple individuals. Following an initial investigation, troopers obtained a search warrant for a property along County Road 426 in Cornell Township.

State police said troopers executed the warrant on Feb. 4 and discovered several deceased animals at the location, including cats, rabbits, pigs and goats. The release said troopers also located live animals in malnourished and unhealthy condition, seizing and removing 14 cats, 12 rabbits and one sheep from the property.

While troopers were attempting to complete their investigation, a woman on scene began resisting and obstructing officers and refused to follow lawful orders, police claim, according to the release.

State police said the woman then bit one of the troopers on the wrist. After being informed she was under arrest, she continued to fight with troopers and attempted to bite another trooper before being taken into custody, the release said.

The woman, identified in the release as 22-year-old Brianna Makosky, was detained at the Delta County Jail. State police said she was arraigned on Feb. 5 in 94th District Court on three felony counts related to resisting, obstructing and assaulting a police officer. Her bond was set at $4,000 cash or surety, and she is next due in court on Feb. 19.

The animal neglect investigation remains ongoing and will be submitted to the Delta County Prosecutor for review once complete, according to the release. State police said they were assisted by the Delta Animal Shelter.
