A mother-in-law brought a second cake to the wedding — in a plastic container — because she didn’t like the one the bride chose.

A guest at the wedding shared the “wild” story in a post on Reddit’s “Wedding Shaming” forum. She wrote that “everything was going smoothly” at the event … “until the cake.”

The groom’s mother suddenly “stood up and snatched the mic” from the emcee. “Originally I thought it was gonna be a toast. Nope,” the guest recalled.

Instead, the mother told the wedding attendees, “I just want everyone to know I paid for half this wedding, and I didn’t approve that cake. It’s dry. I tried it earlier.”

She then proceeded to pull out “a Tupperware with cake” from under the table.

“Like… a full, homemade sheet cake,” the Redditor continued. “Slaps it on the gift table and says, ‘This is carrot. From scratch. With real cream cheese frosting. You’re welcome,’ and just walks off.”

And to the guest’s surprise, people “legit started eating it.” A groomsman even said he thought it was actually better than the real wedding cake.

“Bride walks out. Groom follows. MIL smiles like she won,” they wrote.

Needless to say, the bride didn’t speak to her mother-in-law “for months” after the cake incident, the Redditor revealed.

“They’re fine now, but the couple banned ‘unauthorized desserts’ at their baby shower,” she concluded her post, adding, “The Tupperware is still a sore topic.”

In the comments section, readers expressed their shock over the mother-in-law’s move.

“It’s not a f—— bake off,” one person wrote, while another questioned the guests’ willingness to eat the cake, knowing it might offend the bride and groom.

“I can’t believe the guests would eat the clearly passive-aggressive cake. As a guest, I would make a big of a show of how the MIL cake was not touched by anyone and I’d rave about how delicious the actual wedding cake was (even if it wasn’t),” a commenter said.

Another person agreed, writing: “Guests were the real villains here. If I’d been a guest, you couldn’t have paid me to eat the carrot cake, even though I love carrot cake. Nothing would have been better than absolutely nobody touching it.”

Many sympathized with the bride and noted that she will likely have to navigate similar tricky situations with her mother-in-law in the future.

“What an odd and controlling thing to do. Who attends a wedding because they give a s— about the quality of the cake? It’s a minor detail. I feel really sorry for that bride, and I’m wondering what other things won’t be good enough,” one commenter said.

Another reader chose to see the silver lining in the awkward wedding situation, commenting, “Honestly, more cake doesn’t seem like a bad idea. This sounds like a win for everybody.”
