Natalia Grace is speaking out about her relationship with her adoptive parents.
The Ukrainian orphan born with dwarfism featured on the docuseries The Curious Case of Natalia Grace, now 21, appeared to have found her happy ending with Antwon and Cynthia Mans, who adopted her after she was abandoned by previous adoptive parents, Michael and Kristine Barnett.
But in the new season of the docuseries, The Curious Case of Natalia Grace: The Final Chapter, the Manses were also growing to mistrust Natalia.
The producers of the show received a troubling phone call from Antwon Mans in 2023. “Something ain’t right with Natalia,” Antwon said. “This girl is tweaking. I feel like she’s the enemy in the house,” he added.
The explosive events that followed are shown in the first two episodes of the final season of the docuseries. premiering on Investigation Discovery Jan. 6 at 9 p.m. ET and streaming on Max.
Natalia, who met Cynthia, a neighbor, after the Barnetts moved her into an apartment in Lafayette, Ind. , soon moved in with the Mans family and lived harmoniously with them for a decade. But in recent years, their relationship soured.
Natalia’s adoptive parents weren’t happy that she began communicating on Facebook with a man named Neil from the U.K. Furthermore, they are worried that Neil had tried to convince Natalia to turn her back on her family and move out of the home—a concern that the Manses and Natalia confront head-on in the first episode of the new season.
“I said I want to go and they said I was being mental,” reads a message from Natalia to Neil shown onscreen. Natalia is seemingly referring to her parents.
In the final season, viewers will also see how Natalia got to where she is today — her dramatic midnight escape from the Mans family and adjustment — sometimes rocky— to a life with the DePaul family, little people who are longtime friends and previously tried to adopt her.
The Curious Case of Natalia Grace: The Final Chapter premieres January 6 and January 7 on Investigation Discovery and streams on Max.
