Natalie Portman and John Krasinski are Siblings Craving Immortality in ‘Fountain of Youth’ Trailer

Natalie Portman and John Krasinski are ready to do what it takes to live forever.

Apple released their first look trailer on Wednesday, April 2. “There’s a power beyond any of our comprehension. One story, five continents, dozens of culture, over thousands of years,” Krasinski’s character dramatically explains to Portman as picturesque shots from the group’s adventures are shown.

“And which genius will explain to me why I’m here?” Portman sassily asks, to which Domhnall Gleeson‘s character simply replies, “We’re looking for the fountain of youth.”

The teaser goes on to preview several high-stakes action scenes. “It’s here. I can feel it,” Krasinski’s character states. However, their journey to find the hidden treasure will come with its challenges.

Who needs Botox when cutting-edge technology exists? The latest CGI craze in Hollywood is digitally altering movie stars’ appearances to make their characters look younger on the big screen. One of the first films to attempt the computer-generated de-aging process was X-Men: The Last Stand in 2006 for a flashback scene starring Patrick Stewart and […]

“There’s a reason the fountain was hidden,” Stanley Tucci‘s character warns. “He can’t succeed.”

The first look ends on a light-hearted note, with Portman asking her onscreen brother, “So, you really think you’re gonna find a magic pool of water at the end of this?” He responds, “I don’t know, but I think you wanna find out.”

Portman, 43, and Krasinski, 45, star in the action-adventure film as Luke and Charlotte Purdue, estranged siblings who agree to partner up for a global heist to find the mythological Fountain of Youth. The duo must use their knowledge of history to follow clues on an epic quest that will change their lives forever — and possibly lead to immortality. Eiza González, Arian Moayed, Laz Alonso, and Carmen Ejogo also star.

An Apple Original film, Fountain of Youth is directed by Guy Ritchie (Sherlock Holmes, The Gentlemen) with a script by James Vanderbilt (The Amazing Spider-Man, Scream V). It was produced by Skydance Media along with Vinson Films and Project X Entertainment. Ritchie, Ivan Atkinson, Jake Myers and Radio Silence serve as executive producers.

While speaking to Entertainment Weekly earlier this year, Ritchie revealed that audiences should expect a movie “in the vein of Indiana Jones but contemporary.”

“I found myself feeling like if I wasn’t too careful, I was ending up in a comedy-action-gangster genre, of which, of course, I’m comfortable and enjoy, but at some point, I thought, you have to spread your wings as a writer-director,” Ritchie told the outlet at the time, noting that shooting around the world — in locations like Egypt to Bangkok to Vienna — became as much of an adventure for the cast and crew as it does for the characters.

“Ironically, you end up being in the movie yourself, if you know what I mean,” Ritchie explained. “You go on an action-adventure yourself while you’re constructing these things. So the making of films is as much fun as you think it’s going to be.”

As for insight into Luke and Charlotte, Ritchie revealed that both siblings “come from a background of  archeological endeavors in terms of finding archeological artifacts” and, despite their estrangement, “find an alibi as to why they need to unify to find this particular treasure.”

Krasinski shared that Luke is “the definition of ‘live life to the fullest,” telling EW,  “His adventurous (and somewhat reckless) spirit always makes for a good time…even if it is at the expense of his sister. It was that outlook on life that made Luke a blast to play.”

Charlotte, meanwhile, has “chosen a more stable life” as an adult but gets “thrust back into adventure” by her brother, Portman revealed, adding, “It was fun playing a woman who’s finding her wildness again.”

Fountain of Youth premieres on Apple TV+ Friday, May 23.
