Natalie Portman and Rashida Jones are having a good laugh on the set of Good Sex.
Lena Dunham’s upcoming romantic comedy starring the two actresses, as well as Meg Ryan, Tramell Tillman and Mark Ruffalo, is now filming in New York City.
Judging by photos of Portman, 44, shooting scenes in a park, the Netflix movie looks like classic rom-com fun. The Oscar winner was spotted in a linen shirt and mini-skirt, getting pretzels and sitting on a bench as Jones, 49, and smiled behind the camera with Dunham, 39, and her crew.
Portman is reacting animatedly to her phone in one of the photos captured from the set. In another, she and Dunham appear to be in close conversation.
The Fountain of Youth star and her director are also among the producers of Good Sex, which costars Tucker Pillsbury, also known as the singer Role Model, in his screen debut.
Per an official synopsis from Netflix, Portman plays couples’ therapist Ally, who after “spending a decade in a failed relationship… is turning 40 and reluctantly dipping her toe back into the New York dating scene. But she gets more than she bargained for when she meets two men — one in his twenties and one in his fifties — who show her there is no set formula for good sex.”
Dunham pitched the rom-com to Ryan, 63, while both were attending a Taylor Swift Eras Tour concert, the Girls creator-star told Variety in a July 8 interview.
“I decided, it’s now or never, and I’m going to shoot my shot. She couldn’t be a lovelier person,” Dunham said. “Shout-out, Taylor — thank you for that. She brings everyone together; she makes the world go round.”
Fresh off her Netflix series Too Much, the Golden Globe winner also told the outlet that Good Sex will be planned for streaming rather than a theatrical release.
“I know that there’s an audience for it because I am the audience for it,” she said. “I really just want people to sit on a couch with their moms and their besties and lean in.”

Also among Portman’s upcoming projects are animated movie The Twits and Cathy Yan’s The Gallerist. Jones, nominated for a 2025 Primetime Emmy on Tuesday, July 15, for her performance on Black Mirror, also leads director Andrew Stanton’s upcoming film In the Blink of an Eye.
