Hailee Steinfeld is laying down her house rules.
In a new interview with Architectural Digest, the Oscar-nominated actress 29, weighed in on her household dos and don'ts: from eating meals in front of the TV to having pets on furniture.
When it comes to eating on the couch, Steinfeld says it's a no-go.
"I think it’s a mixture of both. The preference is not in front of the TV. I value a meal away from technology, and even if it’s just the two of us—[or] if it’s us with friends, with family—that time is so limited with the opportunity to have uninterrupted conversation over a great meal," said Steinfeld, who wed NFL player Josh Allen in May 2025. The couple splits their time between Western New York, where Allen, 29, plays for the Buffalo Bills, and California.
One time the TV is always off, however, is bedtime. Asked if she sleeps with the TV on, she gave a hard no.

The couple's home is a little bit more crowded these days. In an April 2 Substack post titled "Special Delivery," Steinfeld confirmed that she gave birth to their first child, a baby girl.
"Our baby girl has arrived!!" Steinfeld shared. "We’re feeling incredibly grateful and blessed and savoring these early moments. Thank you so much for the love and well wishes."
Speaking to AD before she gave birth, Steinfled, who recently partnered with furniture brand Ashley on their Ashley Luxe line, gave details about her plans for the baby's nursery.
“I have been going back and forth on so many details — more than I care to admit — but it really has been such a fun part about getting ready for this new season of life,” said Steinfeld, whose mother Cheri is an interior designer. The actress said that they wants to the nursery to feel “bright and airy and comfortable, and lighting is a big thing for me—warm, soft lighting.”

A proud pet owner, Steinfeld was more receptive to the idea of having pets on furniture.
"I’m a little funny about this one. Emotionally, I say no, but realistically, they’re family. So the rule gets bent. With my dogs, they’re so little. The minute I sit down on the couch, they’re at my feet, and it’s almost impossible to resist their cuteness, and I end up picking them up," said Steinfeld, who owns two small dogs, Martini and Brando. But I tend to have them freshly bathed and on a blanket."

The Dickinson star also gave fans a peek into her calming morning routine. I have been prioritizing opening my curtains and getting natural light immediately," said Steinfeld. "It used to be reaching for my phone, and then that would prolong lying in bed. Even if I jump back in bed for a little while, at least I feel like I’m waking up in a more natural, slow way."
As for the one home gadget she can't live without, the busy actress' answer may surprise you.
"My Hatch alarm sound machine. I'd been hearing about it forever. Friends love it, so I went ahead and got one, and it’s been life-changing [and] also helps with a slow morning natural wake-up that really sets the tone for your day in a different way than just an abrupt alarm."
