Here comes the… fight?

Niecy Nash-Betts detailed some behind-the-scenes drama from her first wedding while co-hosting Today with Jenna & Friends on Tuesday, June 24.

“I’ve been to the big show three times,” Nash-Betts, 55, said of her three marriages.

Nash-Betts was married to Don Nash from 1994 to 2007 and Jay Tucker from 2011 to 2020. She tied the knot with Jessica Betts in 2020.

“I had a traditional wedding the first time where I almost got in a fight right before we walked down the aisle,” Nash-Betts shared of her 1994 wedding to Don. “Because the groom’s ex-girlfriend came to my party.”

When co-host Jenna Bush Hager asked Nash-Betts if the ex-girlfriend “crashed” the nuptials, the Emmy-winning actress replied, “To the wedding event, yeah. And I was like crawl underneath this crinoline and take my shoes off, you know what I mean? I was like, ‘You will not come to my wedding and start a mess.’ “

Of her marriage to Tucker, she said that the televised wedding was “very stressful.” However, the third time proved to be the charm for the All’s Fair star, who shared of her third wedding, “I married the greatest love of my life in my backyard with 24 people.”

Now, Nash-Betts is grateful she met wife Jessica.

“See the first two times I was married, I was married to men and now I’m married to a woman,” she explained. “And I don’t think it’s about the gender that makes it special. It’s just, I met my soulmate, you know what I mean? I met my soulmate. I wasn’t living a sexually repressed life where I was like, ‘Oh my God, I really want to be married to a woman!’ No. I just met the most beautiful soul.”

Nash-Betts added that despite being an ally, she “never thought” she’d be a member of the LGBTQ community.

“I was adjacent. I was an ally, but now I’m a card-carrying member,” she quipped. “And here’s the problem with it — I didn’t get a package. I didn’t get a manual. I didn’t get a toaster, a gift. My friends — I have friends in the community — I thought there was gonna be a parade outside of my house. I got nothing, guys. Nothing. But now I’m in all the Pride parades.”
