Over 143,000 Pounds of Bologna Products Nationwide Recalled Due to ‘Misbranding’

  • Seven bologna products from Gaiser’s European Style Provisions are being recalled for mislabeling
  • The recalled products contained undeclared meat or poultry, per the Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS)
  • The items were sold between March 20 and June 20, and were distributed nationwide

Bologna products sold nationwide are being recalled for misbranding.

Seven types of bologna sold by Gaiser’s European Style Provisions have been recalled, the Food Safety and Inspection Service announced on June 27. The recalled products, sold between March 20 and June 20, contain meat or poultry ingredients that were not declared on their labels.

The following products are subject to recall:

  • Vacuum-packed packages of “FAMILY TREE BOLOGNA VEAL” containing undeclared pork
  • Plastic-wrapped packages of “BABUSHKA’S RECIPE CHICKEN BOLOGNA” containing undeclared pork
  • Plastic-wrapped packages of “FANCY BOLOGNA” labeled with pork as an ingredient but containing undeclared beef and chicken
  • Vacuum-packed packages of “GAISERS RUSSIAN BRAND DOKTORSKAYA BOLOGNA” containing undeclared beef.
  • Plastic-wrapped packages of “GAISERS BOLOGNA VEAL” containing undeclared chicken and pork
  • Plastic-wrapped packages of “GAISERS TURKEY BOLOGNA” containing undeclared chicken and pork
  • Plastic-wrapped packages of “CHICKEN BOLOGNA KYPOYKA PABA” containing undeclared pork

Each item also includes the establishment number EST. 5385, per the announcement.

FSIS learned of the issue through a complaint through the Office of Inspector General’s hotline, after which the agency conducted an investigation and determined the mislabeling problem.

Consumers and retailers in possession of the recalled items are encouraged to dispose of the product or return it to the distributor or store it was bought. At present, no cases of illness have been reported in connection with the mislabeling, but anyone who suspects they may be ill due to the recalled products should contact their doctor.
