Paris Jackson Reveals How Clothing Helped Her Manage Feeling ‘Very Uncomfortable’ in Her Skin

Clothing means a lot to Paris Jackson, who recently opened up about how it’s helped her understand her inner self.

“I have always felt very uncomfortable in my own skin, and I’ve always had very unmanageable thoughts and feelings,” she told Fashion Magazine in an interview published on Oct. 9. “I was like, ‘If I feel so different, I might as well actually dress like it.’”

The singer and daughter of the late Michael Jackson, 27, also spoke about her body image, admitting, “I would like to have a good relationship with my body because it’s my temple” and added that “it feels kind of f—– up to not do that.”

Over the years, Jackson has embraced a number of skin-baring ensembles, from the see-through look she wore during New York Fashion Week in September to the equally risqué dress she wore for her front row appearance at the Stella McCartney show in Paris back in March.

The latter received “a good amount of flak” that Jackson felt compelled to address on social media. “I don’t really understand why the human body is a driving force for such discomfort in so many people. It’s just a body … we look at other naked animals all the time … we’re just animals,” she said on Instagram.

But, this doesn’t come as a surprise since the actress and activist has defied societal beauty standards on and off the red carpet.

In 2023, a post dedicated to what would’ve been her late father’s 65th birthday unintentionally prompted comments about Jackson’s shaving habits when she flashed her grown-out armpit hair. Her three-word response: Get over yourselves.” 

One month later, Jackson clapped back at comments on her makeup-free appearance, writing, “This is no filter, no makeup and regular lighting for the people that wrote really s—– comments about how old and haggard I look in my last video. She also wrote, “I am literally 25. Just young and haggard thank you very much.”

She’s also stripped back in other ways, much like she did at the 2024 Grammys when she hid her 80-plus tattoos with the help of makeup brand Cover FX. The result was an ink-free-looking Jackson baring her abs, arms and legs in an elegant cutout gown at the star-studded event.

“When I look in the mirror, I don’t hate what I see anymore … I try to treat myself kindly,” Jackson said in her 2022 SPIN cover story. “I have some bad days where I’m not as kind to myself as I would like to be … I don’t do anything perfectly, but I try to progress daily.”
