Arnold Schwarzenegger is embracing his “mid-life crisis” by adopting a small menagerie of animals, his son Patrick says.
During an appearance on SiriusXM’s Literally! With Rob Lowe on Thursday, May 29, Patrick, 31, opened up about his famous actor dad’s collection of animals, which has grown to include mini horses, pigs and a donkey over the last several years.
“I love that Arnold has the mini horse and the pig… it makes me want to do that,” Lowe, 61, told Patrick during the episode.
“He has totally embraced this new kind of act of life,” the White Lotus star replied, speaking about his 77-year-old dad. “It’s just … Doctor Doolittle meets this mid-life crisis, but happiness and calmer side of life. It’s really funny.”
“You’ve seen it, but this picture of him holding court at his dinner table with a cigar in his mouth and the miniature donkey behind him on the right side and the miniature pony on the left side and the pig right below his feet eating, and then the little chihuahua on his lap, and then the massive 180 pound Malamute husky over there next to the horse,” Patrick continued.
“It’s just like they have all of them surrounding Arnold. He has certain meals, he has the oatmeal cookies, the homemade oatmeal cookies that are good for the horses. He’s got special meals for the dog. He’s got the soup that the pig loves,” the actor added. “It’s just it’s out of a movie. It really is.”
The former California governor has grown his pet collection steadily over the last several years. In April 2023, he adopted Schnelly Schwarzenegger (“Chnell” means “fast” in German), a pig. He is also a proud owner of a donkey named Lulu, a miniature horse, Whiskey, and several dogs.
During his conversation with Lowe, Patrick and the Parks & Recreation alum also discussed rumors about a potential show or movie in development about Arnold and his many pets.
“Apparently. Brian, our friend Brian Grazer, has a movie he’s developing about Arnold and the animals,” Lowe said, referring to the producer and Ron Howard’s frequent collaborator. “Every time I see Brian… I keep saying, ‘What’s going on with the Arnold animal movie?’ Because honestly, I don’t know anything I’d rather see than a movie about Arnold and his animals.”
“I am down to see that. I saw him literally yesterday and he brought it up,” Patrick revealed. “I’m hoping that it happens.”

The FUBAR star sometimes shares footage of his pets on Instagram. In a post last year, he shared a video of himself and his pig out for an afternoon stroll.
“Nothing like a Tuesday morning walk with my Schnelly!” the Terminator talent wrote in an Instagram caption at the time.
The clip showed the pig following closely behind Schwarzenegger, oinking all the way.
