Pierce Brosnan and Helena Bonham Carter are teaming up in a movie about true love and testing fate.
Four Letters of Love, adapted by Niall Williams from his 1997 bestselling novel of the same name, also stars Gabriel Byrne, Fionn O’Shea and Ann Skelly as ordinary people caught in an extraordinary love story.
PEOPLE has the exclusive first trailer, in which O’Shea and Skelly’s characters seem destined for each other, despite circumstances — including their families — getting in the way.
“I see your face,” intones O’Shea in the trailer after a chance encounter with Skelly that upends both of their lives. “For the first time in my life the world makes sense. I close my eyes and you are here. Here, and not here.”

Directed by Polly Steele, Four Letters of Love is a “life-affirming tale about faith and doubt, maybes and almosts, and the miracle of love,” per a synopsis. It was filmed on location in Ireland, making use of its gorgeous, windswept island coasts.
Brosnan, 72, plays William, father to O’Shea’s Nicholas. A moment of divine revelation leads him to quit his job and become a painter. Bonham Carter, 58, and Byrne, 75, play parents to Skelly’s Isabel.
“The young lovers embark on their own individual journeys of heartache and misplaced love, before fate contrives to pull the threads of their lives together,” adds the synopsis. “When they meet, it is a miracle.”
“I write these words to feel your eyes reading them,” O’Shea can be heard saying at the end of the trailer. “I have more to say to you than would take a lifetime.”
Pierce has a busy 2025 between Paramount+ series MobLand and the films Black Bag, The Unholy Trinity (in theaters June 13), The Thursday Murder Club (on Netflix Aug. 28) and Giant (in theaters Aug. 28).
Quiver Distribution will release Four Letters of Love in theaters July 25.
