Pit Bulls Rescued from N.Y. Home with ‘Noxious Air and Odor of Feces, Urine and Rot’ So Bad Detectives Gagged

Two pit bulls were rescued from their allegedly neglectful owner and her uninhabitable home on Wednesday, Feb. 19, according to a Sunday, Feb. 23 Suffolk County SPCA news release.

Their owner, Stacy Zimmer, 48, was arrested in Brentwood, N.Y., on Feb. 19. She was charged with animal cruelty, possession of a controlled substance, and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Authorities arrived at her home on Feb. 19, where the “detectives found the home the animals were confined inside had noxious air and odor of feces, urine, and rot,” per the news release.

The two dogs, named Princess and Koda, were allegedly found inside in “filthy areas of garbage and feces.” There were hundreds of dead flies and buckets of urine, and the garbage was “strewn about the interior of the residence.” The ammonia odor was so “overwhelming” and “foul” that it made “investigators cough and gag while indoors.”

Authorities also allegedly recovered crack cocaine and drug paraphernalia. “The residence has been placarded as unfit for human occupancy by the Town of Smithtown Code Enforcement,” per the news release. The home was boarded up.

Zimmer was booked and released from the Suffolk County Police Department’s 3rd Precinct. Her next court appearance is scheduled for Friday, March 7 at First District Court in Central Islip.

Princess and Koda will be available for adoption at the Islip Animal Shelter.

An Islip Animal Shelter representative said that the pit bulls were not malnourished and only in need of grooming, per News 12.
