A newborn baby was found outside a woman’s home in Canada this week, authorities said.
On Wednesday, April 9, a concerned citizen called police after discovering the child was left on the porch of a residence in London, Ontario, the London Police said in a news release.
The baby was taken to the hospital by paramedics and is said to currently be in good health, per police. The investigation into the case is ongoing.
In an update on Friday, April 11, police said the mother of the newborn had been found.
“We would like to thank the public for their compassion and engagement in this situation. Thankfully, everyone is safe,” Detective Inspector Sean Travis said in a statement. “As the investigation progresses, we will be limited in what information can be provided to respect the privacy of everyone involved.”
Bria Vanier told The London Free Press that she and her roommate were waiting for a food delivery when the police knocked on their door.
“They said they didn’t know how to pick up a baby,” Vanier, 38, told the newspaper. “So I held the baby until the ambulance got here.”
The woman added that she felt “immediately attached” to the baby and brought him inside her home to “warm him up.”
“He still had after-birth on him,” she stated.

In another interview with CBC, Vanier said the infant was wrapped in a flannel blanket and had been left with an emotional note.
“The note said, essentially, ‘Give my baby a good home. I’m not able to care for him,’ ” she said.
“It said he was a home birth, that he didn’t like bright lights and she wanted someone to care for him,” Vanier continued.
She added to the outlet that the note also said the baby was born a day earlier.
Vanier also expressed sympathy for the baby’s birth mother to CBC, stating, “I think this was someone who was in a lot of pain to give up their child. It was someone who was desperate.”
