A Wisconsin woman who was reported missing after being heard pleading "don't shoot me" while on a phone call was found dead.

After initially saying that Gabriella Cartagena, 24, had been located, the Marinette Police Department subsequently said days later at a press conference that she was found dead in a wooded area on Tuesday, Feb. 10, six days after being reported missing, according to WLUK.

Before her body was found, Cartagena had been considered an "involuntary missing" person, police said.

WBAY reported that Cartagena's family had said they last heard from her during a phone call, in which she sounded distressed.

“Please don’t shoot me," she reportedly begged during the call. "I’m sorry."

At the press conference reported by WLUK, police said Cartagena's boyfriend, Robert Chilcote, with whom she was last seen, had been taken into custody in Minnesota and weapons were found in his car.

The outlet reported that police said Chilcote is considered a person of interest in her disappearance.

Per WBAY, Chilcote is being held in Minnesota on $100,000 bond.

In a GoFundMe started by Cartagena's brother, he revealed that his sister was the mother of a 3-year-old daughter.
