Porsha Williams is feeling “free” after a Georgia judge denied her ex-husband Simon Guobadia’s appeal in their contentious divorce battle — but the businessman tells PEOPLE he doesn’t plan on backing down.
According to court documents obtained by PEOPLE, the Court of Appeals of the State of Georgia denied Guobadia’s application for discretionary appeal on Tuesday, Sept. 9.
“It’s over!!!!” Williams wrote on her Instagram Stories, in celebration. “Thank Goodness. Grateful.”
She followed up the post with a video of her walking onto a private plane, set to “Free,” the 2004 tune by Destiny’s Child. “😘 Free …✌🏾,” she wrote, hashtagging the post “Ms265” in a playful reference to a famous on-air blunder she made during an episode of the Bravo reality series.
But Guobadia isn’t letting this legal setback stop him. “We intend to continue pursuing this appeal, as we have not yet exhausted all legal remedies,” he told PEOPLE in a statement. “I anticipate a resolution within approximately 12–24 months, depending on how far the opposition chooses to take the matter.”
“In addition, I have a federal defamation case that has yet to be heard, and we are now preparing for the discovery phase at the pace set by the federal court,’ he added. [Williams has denied the defamation allegations].
“I am a very patient man — patience has served me well for over 40 years in both my personal and professional life — and I am confident that I will ultimately prevail,” Guobadia said. “Stay tuned.”
Williams, 44, and Guobadia, 61, married in November 2022 after a whirlwind romance that began a month prior to their May 2021 engagement. The pair were slated to star together in season 16 of RHOA, but she filed for divorce in February 2024, days before filming began.
Following an intense legal battle, their contentious divorce was finalized nearly a year later, in June 2025. As PEOPLE reported at the time, the judge ruled in Williams’s favor, upholding their prenup and granting her 14 months of spousal support in the form of $40,000 per month.
Per the ruling, Williams was given 50 perfect equity in their home and awarded the ability to stay in their home for 36 months, with Guobadia paying the mortgage and bills. She received their 2021 Rolls Royce and other cars. Guobadia is on the hook for her legal fees and a lump sum payment as part of their settlement, too, for $224,000 in legal fees.
In his appeal though, obtained by PEOPLE, Guobadia argued that their November 2022 prenup was void because Williams allegedly misrepresented herself during negotiations by not disclosing her plans to return to RHOA. She would wind up doing just that, earning what he claimed to be “approximately $8,000,000 to $9,000,000” in 2024 thanks to her Bravo salary and her overall scripted talent deal with NBCUniversal.
He also insisted that Williams broke the prenup’s confidentiality rules when she talked about Guobadia’s finances on reality TV and in the press. [Williams has opposed Guobadia’s arguments in support of his efforts to toss the prenup].
Guobadia is currently living in his homeland of Nigeria. He was deported there earlier this year due to a history of immigration violations, including bank and credit card fraud.

Williams, meanwhile, filed a petition on Aug. 28 claiming that Guobadia owes her at least $667,359.55. According to the documents obtained by PEOPLE, that amount allegedly includes over $164,200 mortgage payments and other carrying costs, $80,000 in alimony payments, more than $198,200 in property taxes, That doesn’t include the outstanding balance on the 2021 Rolls Royce Ghost, which has yet to be turned over with clear title to Williams, per her filing.
At the time of the filing, Guobadia dismissed it until the Court of Appeals had ruled on his filing, telling TMZ her claims in the lower court were “tantamount to toilet tissue for the public’s consumption.”
