- Molly Barnes didn’t expect to have a baby when she went in for her 39-week appointment
- Her doctors had to induce her for high blood pressure, so she immediately told her husband to get to the hospital
- Her husband had decided it would be funny to wear a silly outfit to work that very same day
When Molly Barnes went to her 39-week appointment, she didn’t expect to have a baby.
The new mom, 27, shares with PEOPLE that her husband was at work when she went to her checkup. During the visit, doctors noticed that her blood pressure was high, and they decided to induce her. “At the time, my husband was at work and had decided to wear jorts to his work lunch as a joke. When I called him to tell him to meet me at the hospital, he casually mentioned what he was wearing on his way there,” Barnes recalls.

She shares that she “wasn’t mad” when she found out what her husband, Michael, would be wearing to meet their baby, because it “perfectly sums up who my husband is.”
“The reason I love him is because he’s goofy. When I first met him, it was at a church group he was leading. Before it started, he was just this funny, goofy guy making everyone laugh. But when it was time to lead, it was like a switch flipped. He was still lighthearted and cracking jokes, but you could tell how deeply he cared. He’s carried himself this way through our entire relationship,” Barnes explains.

During labor, it was the same. Even though she says he “looked goofy,” he was “taking everything very seriously.”
“He just happened to be wearing jorts. Throughout the entire experience, he was completely present and supportive: getting me water, holding my hand, helping me through contractions. After the baby was born, during our hospital stay, he did everything he could. He changed diapers, stayed awake soothing the baby so I could sleep, you name it, he did it,” Barnes recalls.

Despite the wardrobe mishap, Barnes says, “our delivery went perfectly.” She adds, “Our baby was healthy, and I had no complications.”

While waiting to give birth, Barnes shared a video of her husband — and his jorts — with her followers on TikTok to “show people how funny my husband is.” The clip quickly went viral, amassing over 302,000 views and plenty of wild reactions, with one commenter writing, "the baby sensed the dad fit and had to come out to see."
“His antics genuinely make my life lighter, even during something as intense as labor, he could still make me laugh. I love being able to share that part of him,” Barnes says now.
As for why it may have resonated with a lot of women, Barnes says that it's “because so many of us have partners who unintentionally make us laugh in the most unexpected moments.”
