Prime Video Renews ‘Maxton Hall’ for Season 3 Early — But Is It the Final Season?

Prime Video renewed Maxton Hall for season 3 — months before the second season is set to premiere.

The streaming service confirmed on Monday, June 9, that production will begin on season 3, which is based on the third book in Mona Kasten’s best selling trilogy, Save Us. Damian Hardung and Harriet Herbig-Matten will reprise their roles as James and Ruby, respectively.

There are three novels in Kasten’s book series, but Prime Video didn’t reveal whether the third season of the show will be its last.

The German-language TV drama premiered in May 2024 and introduced viewers to an unlikely enemies-to-lovers romance between private school classmates Ruby Bell (Herbig-Matten) and James Beaufort (Hardung). While attending their prestigious U.K. school, scholarship recipient Ruby unwittingly witnessed a secret that put her on the radar of the wealthy James.

Maxton Hall quickly found record-breaking success, becoming the most-watched non-U.S. title during its first week on Prime Video. In September 2024, Country Director at Prime Video Germany and Austria Christoph Schneider sparked speculation of plans for a three-season arc.

“We had a great IP, it was brilliantly made, we had a great — and not just the two main actors, who are outstanding, but also the others. Everyone was really great, and that made this a unicorn show,” he explained to Deadline. “The good news is we have three seasons.”

Season 2, which premieres November 7, is based on the second part of Kasten’s Save You novel. According to the synopsis, Maxton Hall picks up after James and Ruby’s “passionate night together in Oxford and her greatest life goal within reach, everything seems to be going perfectly for Ruby.”

Things take a turn, however, when “a stroke of fate in James’ family changes everything and James himself, of all people, brings her back from cloud nine to a harsh reality. Ruby is devastated. She has never had such strong feelings for anyone as she does for James — and never before has anyone hurt her so deeply.”

The logline continued: “She wants her old life back, where no one at Maxton Hall knew her yet and she wasn’t part of the elitist world of her classmates. But she can’t forget James — especially since he’s doing everything he can to win her back.”

In addition to Hardung, 26, and Herbig-Matten, 21, Sonja Weißer, Ben Felipe, Fedja van Huêt, Runa Greiner, Justus Riesner, Andrea Guo, Frederic Balonier and Eli Riccardi will return for the second season. Director Martin Schreier also came back to direct Maxton Hall — The World Between Us.

2025 is a big year for TV — but which shows do we definitely know are coming back for more seasons? Apple TV+ surprised viewers by renewing Bad Monkey after the ending left the show’s future unclear. Herbig-Matten and Hardung previously spoke exclusively to Us Weekly about bringing the fictional love story to life.

“That was my first time playing a love story that has these intense emotions. And as I said, it was really easy with Damian and I,” Herbig-Matten told Us in June 2024. “We are two different people and we are good friends and we have a good connection. It’s really important to treat your connection [well] but to set boundaries as well as an actress and an actor.”

Hardung also discussed James and Ruby’s connection, adding, “That chemistry, it has to be felt. It’s really just about taking every emotion seriously. You have got to be honest about those emotions and I love that.”

Maxton Hall returns to Prime Video on November 7.
