Prince Harry sent a plea to father King Charles III after a landmark loss in his U.K. security trial.
“I would love reconciliation with my family. There’s no point in continuing to fight anymore,” Harry, 40, told BBC News on Friday, May 2. “Life is precious. I don’t know how much longer my father has.”
Harry told reporters that Charles, 76, “won’t speak to me” amid the recent legal battle. “It would be nice to reconcile,” the Duke of Sussex added. (Royal expert Richard Fitzwilliams spoke about their lack of communication and exclusive interview with Us Weekly last month.)
“There have been so many disagreements between myself and some of my family,” Harry continued, nothing that he has “forgiven” them.
Harry and wife Meghan Markle lost their government-funded security in the U.K. after leaving the royal family in 2020. Their security measures have been decided on a case-by-case basis since they relocated to the United States.

Harry has been fighting to get their security back ever since.
“There is a lot of control and ability in my father’s hands,” Harry added. “Ultimately, this whole thing could be resolved through him. Not necessarily by intervening, but by stepping aside, allowing the experts [to] do what is necessary.”
Harry appeared in court for two days in early April to appeal a 2024 decision regarding the status if his and Meghan’s security in the U.K. Judge Sir Geoffrey Vos dismissed the appeal on Friday.
“I can’t see a world in which I would bring my wife and children back to the UK at this point,” Harry also said in his BBC interview. “I love my country, I always have done, despite what some people in that country have done.”

The duke noted that it was “really quite sad” that bringing his kids to the U.K. isn’t an option anymore. (Harry and Meghan, 43, share son Archie, 5, and daughter Lilibet, 3.)
Harry previously hinted at his father’s involvement in the security debacle. After appearing in court, on April 9, the duke said he was “exhausted and overwhelmed,” during an interview with People.
A source also confirmed to Us Weekly exclusively last month that the legal drama has worsened the rift between Harry and his father.
“This has been terrible for Harry’s relationship with Charles,” the insider said. “Harry blames Charles and thinks he can intervene. But [Charles] can’t, and it just continues Harry’s narrative that he’s been cast out.”
