Prince William Reveals He Was ‘Surprised’ by King Charles’ Modern Playlist

Prince William revealed he was taken aback by his father King Charles III’s music taste after the monarch released an Apple Music playlist in March.

“I was expecting a lot of classical music, so I was surprised.” William, 42, said during a visit to Mentivity House, a youth center in London, on Thursday, April 24, according to Hello Magazine.

The playlist, titled His Majesty King Charles III’s Playlist, was released to mark Commonwealth Day on March 10 and featured artists including Beyoncé, Michael Bublé, and Bob Marley.

Adeyemi Michael, director of Mentivity House, asked William if he thought the king might have included some “garage and U.K. funky” music.

Have you ever wondered what the royal family listens to during their downtime? Now you don’t have to speculate, as King Charles III released his own personal playlist on Apple Music to mark Commonwealth Day on Monday, March 10. The playlist, titled His Majesty King Charles III’s Playlist, features some of the king’s favorite music […]

“I’m not sure he’d know what that was,” William quipped.

“Throughout my life, music has meant a great deal to me. I know that is also the case for so many others,” Charles, 76, said in a video message announcing the project on March 7.

“It has that remarkable ability to bring happy memories flooding back from the deepest recesses of our memory, to comfort us in times of sadness, and to take us to distant places. But perhaps, above all, it can lift our spirits to such a degree, and all the more so when it brings us together in celebration. In other words, it brings us joy,” he added.

The king first shared the playlist during an Apple Music 1 radio special titled The King’s Music Room. During the special, Charles was full of praise for Beyoncé before introducing her song, “Crazy in Love.”

Charles described the singer as “so exceptional that I could not resist including her music.”

As for William, the royal posed for selfies during his visit on Thursday and also spoke with young people supported by Mentivity, a charity that aims to empower young people through youth services, including mentorship schemes.

He also took part in a soccer match organized in his honor, telling the group, “I’ll only be ten seconds, I’m terrible at this,” according to Hello.
