Queen Camilla Reveals Secret to Her and King Charles III’s 20-Year Marriage

Queen Camilla and King Charles III’s marriage is quite simple, really. 

After tying the knot in 2005, the queen consort shared what has kept their marriage—which was Charles’ second following his divorce from the late Princess Diana in 1996 after 15 years together—going strong. 

“Twenty years, who could believe it was 20 years?” Camilla told a group of reporters during her recent State visit to Italy April 9, per Hello! magazine. “What is the secret? I don’t know. I suppose it’s just sort of friendship, really.”

Indeed, the queen admitted that she and Charles have always simply “gotten” each other. 

“Laughing at the same things,” she continued, “Getting on with life.” 

And as the 77-year-old completed another philanthropy project at an Italian school, she noted that their respective royal duties also meant that they needed to be individuals, as well as a couple. 

“Doing this takes up most of the time,” she explained. “We are always going in different directions, like ships that pass in the night really. We whizz past each other. In fact we have got a bit of a catch-up this afternoon.”
