RHOC Alum Lydia McLaughlin Stirling’s Brother Shot and Killed During Traffic Stop: Report

Real Housewives of Orange County alum Lydia McLaughlin Stirling’s brother, Geoffrey Shyam Stirling, was fatally shot on Thursday, April 17, according to TMZ.

Geoffrey, 45, was riding a motorcycle along the Pacific Coast Highway in Newport Beach, Calif., when he was pulled over by local police on Thursday night.

Geoffrey was allegedly “uncooperative” with the police, sources told the outlet. Then, at least one officer allegedly shot him. Guillermo Tagalogon, who lives near Hoag Hospital, told OnScene.TV, a freelance news organization, reported that he heard six or seven gunshots.

Geoffrey was then transported to the hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries. No officers were injured.

”My family and I are devastated by the loss of my brother. We are grateful for the outpouring of love and support from friends, family, and the community. We kindly ask for privacy as we mourn,” Lydia said in a statement to TMZ on Friday, April 18.

California Attorney General Rob Bonta announced on Friday, April 18, that it is investigating an officer-involved shooting that occurred on Thursday around 9:15 p.m. local time. The incident “resulted in the death of one individual and involved personnel from the Newport Beach Police Department,” the Attorney General’s release stated.

After the California Department of Justice completes its investigation, it will be turned over to the DOJ’s Special Prosecutions Section within the Criminal Law Division for independent review.

Anyone who has information related to this officer-involved shooting incident and wishes to report it may do so by calling (916) 210-2871.

The death of Lydia’s brother follows the six-month anniversary of their mother’s death.

On Tuesday, April 8, Lydia posted to Instagram, paying tribute to her late mother, Judy Stirling. Judy, who made multiple appearances on the Bravo reality show, died on Oct. 8, 2024, of breast cancer.

“I have gone to a beautiful group called Grief Share which has helped me in my healing and processing my grief. It’s a nationwide group if anyone needs support, I recommend them. ❤️‍🩹,” Lydia wrote in her April tribute.

“Grief can make you better or bitter. I am putting in my whole heart to turn my sorrow into thanksgiving, for having the privilege to have such a beautiful mom. She will always be my hero, and my favorite. 👑.”
