Rob Reiner received another Hollywood honor, nearly nine months after his death.
The late actor and filmmaker won Outstanding Guest Actor in a Comedy Series at the 2026 Creative Arts Emmys on Sunday, Sept. 6, for his performance as Albert Schnurr in The Bear.
Michael J. Fox, Brett Goldstein, Hamish Linklater, Christopher McDonald and Connor Storrie were also nominated in the category.
The category’s presenters Wendi McLendon-Covey and David Alan Grier accepted the trophy on his behalf. The audience gave Reiner a lengthy standing ovation inside the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles.
The honor marked Reiner’s third Emmy win and came nearly nine months after his death in December 2025. His performance in The Bear’s season 4 episode “Tonnato” earned him his eighth career Emmy nomination.
Reiner, 78, and his wife Michele Singer Reiner were killed in their Brentwood home in December 2025. Their son Nick Reiner, 32, has been indicted on two counts of first-degree murder in connection with their deaths and has pleaded not guilty.
One of the final onscreen performances by the late Reiner was in The Bear season 4. He appeared in three episodes of the hit series as a restaurant consultant who worked with line cook Ebra (Edwin Lee Gibson) to improve The Original Beef’s walk-up window and eventually helped inspire plans to franchise the business.
The series finale of the show paid tribute to him as Ebra called Albert after getting the green light to move forward with the franchise plan. At the end of their conversation, Ebra told him, “As you wish,” a nod to Reiner’s beloved 1987 film The Princess Bride.
Reiner previously won two Emmys, both for playing Michael “Meathead” Stivic in All in the Family, in 1974 and 1978.

Also in the category this year, Fox earned his 19th Emmy nomination for his role as Gerry on Shrinking season 3. The role brought him out of his self-imposed retirement and has “really prolonged my life and made my life interesting in a way that I didn’t think it would be to this point,” he told The Hollywood Reporter.

Goldstein was also nominated for Shrinking, which scored a total of nine nominations this year, including nods for Ford, Jessica Williams, Jason Segel and Michael Urie. He plays Louis in the Apple TV series and is also an executive producer of the show.
The British actor has previously won two Emmys, both for Ted Lasso. In response to his nomination for Shrinking, he said in a statement, “This is so cool. What an absolute list of stone-cold legends to be a part of.”

Linklater earned his first Emmy nomination for playing Richard Warren, the founder of the cursed island, in Widow’s Bay, which scored 19 nominations overall this year.
He said he was drawn to the role — appearing in flashbacks that explained the history behind the island’s curse — by the team both in front of and behind the camera. “If it hadn’t been Katie [Dippold] writing it, and [director] Hiro Murai setting the tone for it, and Matthew Rhys — who’s the all-star of all-stars — then I would think twice, but the level of the show was so apparent that I ran towards it. Or I paddled towards it,” Linklater told Decider.

McDonald once again earned a nomination for his role as Marty Ghilain in Hacks. He has played the casino owner since season 1 of the HBO comedy and was previously nominated in the category for the role in 2022.
Overall, Hacks’ final season set the record for the most nominations in a single year in the comedy categories with 24, beating out The Studio and The Bear, which had previously jointly held that title.

Rounding out the category, Storrie scored his first-ever Emmy nomination after a massive year as a breakout star of Heated Rivalry. He was recognized for his March hosting stint on Saturday Night Live. He called the hosting gig a “pinch-me moment in my career,” adding in a previous statement, “I’m so grateful to everyone who made that night possible.”

The 2026 Creative Arts Emmy Awards are being held on Sept. 5 and Sept. 6 at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles and will be edited into a single broadcast that airs Saturday, Sept. 12, at 8 p.m. ET/PT on FXX and streams on Hulu the next day. The Primetime Emmy Awards will air live on NBC and Peacock Monday, Sept. 14, with host Mariska Hargitay.
