Robin Thicke included a special tribute to his father Alan Thicke at his wedding to April Love Geary.
As he said “I do” to the model, 30, in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico, on Friday, May 30, the singer, 48, left an empty chair in the front row of the ceremony that was reserved for his late parent, who died in 2016.
The chair, according to video footage posted online by a wedding guest, featured a banner with a message on the back.
“In loving memory of Alan Thicke, Father of the groom,” the message began. “We remember … Although you cannot be here with us today, your love and light remain in our hearts.”
It continued, “We feel your presence in the gentle breeze, the warmth of the sun, and the joy that fills the day. You are forever in our hearts.”

Alan died of a ruptured aorta and a standard type A aortic dissection at age 69 on Dec. 13, 2016. He had collapsed hours before his death while playing hockey with his son Carter Thicke.
The actor shared his two eldest children, sons Robin and Brennan Thicke, with his first wife, Gloria Loring. He was also a dad to son Carter, 27, with his second wife, Gina Tolleson.
Robin and Geary tied the knot in a picturesque ceremony following a six-year engagement — as well as a second proposal that took place in Cannes, France, earlier this month.
In various posts shared on Geary’s Instagram Stories, the couple, who share three children, could be seen dressed up as they wed. Geary wore an all-white lace gown, while Robin sported a black suit with a white flower on his lapel.
In one video shared online, Geary appeared emotional as she walked down the aisle. Another clip showed Robin walking down the aisle hand-in-hand with the couple’s four-year-old son Luca Patrick, as he held a mini suitcase with “ring security” written over the top.
Robin was joined by several groomsmen for the nupitals, including Usher and his son Julian Fuego, 15, whom he shares with ex-wife Paula Patton.

The “Blurred Lines” singer told PEOPLE in 2021 that the spirit of his late father Alan has been kept alive through parenting his own children.
“Every time I speak to my son Julian, I feel him because I’m saying the same things he told me,” Robin said at the time. “When I was young, I wanted to be a rebel because my dad was Mr. Good Guy. Now I just want to be as much like him as possible. In the end, all the advice he gave me was correct.”
