Rocker Dave Edmunds’ Wife Shares Hopeful Update After His Cardiac Arrest

NEED TO KNOW

  • Dave Edmunds is expected to make a full recovery after suffering a cardiac arrest in July
  • His wife of 40 years, Cici Edmunds, wrote on Facebook that he was revived by a nurse performing emergency CPR
  • Carlene Carter, the daughter of legendary singers June Carter Cash and Carl Smith, also posted about his recovery progress

Rock musician Dave Edmunds’ wife, Cici Edmunds, has shared an update on his health following a cardiac arrest, stating that he has survived and is in recovery.

Cici, the rocker’s wife of 40 years, reposted an announcement from Carlene Carter, the daughter of June Carter Cash and Carl Smith, on Facebook.

“Bless you sweet beautiful Carlene for sharing the positive news regarding my amazing husbands miraculous recovery. Sending you much love and light your way always. Cici Edmunds,” she wrote on the repost, shared on Tuesday, Aug. 5.

“Dave is expected to make a full recovery and be out of the hospital soon!” Carter’s original Facebook post read, layered over a throwback photo of herself performing with Edmunds, 81, “Some really great news we all have been waiting for…” Carter, 69, wrote.

Carter and Dave released a duet, “Ride Easy Baby,” in 1980.

The rock star, who once played with Ringo Starr & His All Starr Band, suffered a major cardiac arrest in late July, Cici announced in a Facebook post.

At the time, Cici said that Dave “died in my arms” during the incident until a nurse revived him with “heavy CPR.” She added, “I’m still in shock and I believe I have PTSD from the horrific experience.”

Dave was taken to an intensive care unit, where he was intubated, Cici wrote. She explained that he “clearly has brain damage and severe memory loss,” among other ailments.

“Dave will have a very long journey ahead of him if he survives. We both have. But knowing that there are kind hearted people such as you all makes this tremendously difficult journey a little easier,” Cici continued at the time. “Bless you all. Sending you all much love and light and always.”

Mayo Clinic describes a sudden cardiac arrest as “the sudden loss of all heart activity due to an irregular heart rhythm,” which can cause brain damage and lead to death.

Dave was born April 15, 1944, in Cardiff, Wales, and performed in various bands in his adolescence and young adulthood. He had his breakthrough with the blues rock band Love Sculpture in the 1960s. The band recorded two albums before splitting in 1970.

The musician released his first solo album, Rockpile, in 1972. The LP contained covers of several songs from the 1950s and 1960s, including Dave Bartholomew’s “I Hear You Knocking” and Bob Dylan’s “Outlaw Blues.”

Dave’s Bartholomew cover spent six weeks at No. 1 in the U.K., according to the Official Charts.

Dave later formed the band Rockpile with Nick Lowe, Billy Bremner and Terry Williams. The band released the album Seconds of Pleasure in 1980, which included the single “Teacher, Teacher.”

The musician released the 2015 instrumental album On Guitar Dave Edmunds: Rags & Classics. Two years later, Dave’s friend and collaborator Brian Setzer claimed via Facebook that Dave had retired.
