Ryan Lochte Celebrates Son Caiden’s Birthday Amid Divorce and News of $270k Debt

In the midst of his divorce and financial drama, Ryan Lochte found time to celebrate his son, Caiden, on his birthday.

“Happy 8th Birthday to my lil Prince,” Lochte, 40, shared via Instagram on Sunday, June 8.

Calling his son his “lil mini,” the 12-time Olympic medalist shared two pictures of Caiden — one of him holding a fish, another of him standing next to a horse — on the celebratory post.

“I love you Caiden with all my heart!” Ryan wrote.

Lochte’s wife, Kayla Reid, announced last week she had filed for divorce after seven years of marriage. The couple also shares two daughters Liv, 5, and Georgia, 23 months.

“Earlier this year, I made the hard decision to end my marriage after deep prayer and reflection,” Reid shared via Instagram on June 4. “I hold marriage in the highest regard, so this has been one of the most painful, revealing, and challenging seasons of my life. I’ve been hesitant to share until I could do so from a place of healing — not from fresh, open wounds.”

Lochte addressed the divorce filing hours later, calling the divorce “a difficult decision.”

“I believe it’s the right step toward peace and well-being for both of us,” he wrote via Instagram. “I remain committed to healing, growth, and co-parenting with care and respect as we move forward separately.”

After news of Reid’s divorce filing, Us Weekly obtained court documents proving the couple was in severe financial debt to the tune of $270k.

The documents showed Lochte and Reid had an unpaid balance of $99,696.09 with the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) for the years 2021 and 2022.

A lien of $2,231.76 was filed on their Gainesville, Florida, property by the local homeowners association in December 2024. The homeowners association cited Lochte and Reid for various “unpaid” fees, including “special assessments, late fees, costs of collection [and] attorney’s fees” as of December 9, 2024.

Another lien was filed by the nonprofit Shands Teaching Hospital and Clinic for $127,977.73 in unpaid bills from when Lochte is said to have spent two days being treated in a Gainesville medical facility in November 2023. The same hospital is seeking an additional $39,720.15 for care that allegedly took place in February 2024.

Us Weekly has reached out to Lochte’s legal team for comment.

Reid also celebrated her son’s birthday via Instagram, showing off a carousel of photos from a trip to Las Vegas with Caiden, her two daughters and some friends.

“It was a happy golden birthday, to my favorite guy ♥️👑🧒🏼,” Reid wrote on Monday, June 9.
