Salma Hayek Narrowly Avoids Major Wardrobe Disaster Ahead of SI Swimsuit Cover Shoot After Luggage Goes Missing

Salma Hayek had a wardrobe mishap ahead of her Sports Illustrated Swimsuit shoot.

On the Wednesday, May 14, episode of The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, the actress and producer, 58, revealed that her luggage with “all the bathing suits” for the photo shoot got lost.

“They lost the suitcases with all the bathing suits that they tried on me,” Hayek told host Jimmy Fallon. “Everything. And my creams, my things for under the eye. All my medications, the hormones.”

On Tuesday, Sports Illustrated Swimsuit announced the actress as one of its 2025 cover girls. Shot by renowned magazine photographer Ruven Afanador, Hayek can be seen kneeling in a pool while wearing a glittering dark green swimsuit, a gold body chain and a turquoise necklace.

Another photo of features Hayek underneath a cliff on a rocky beach, leaning against the stone as she stands on a shallow beach wearing a brown and mustard yellow crochet-style top and glittering yellow bottoms to match.

During a live appearance on the Today show, Hayek revealed that she almost backed out of the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit shoot.

“I said yes and then when it was time to do it, I tried to back out,” Hayek recalled to co-anchors Savannah Guthrie and Craig Melvin. “I said, ‘No,’ because the bathing suits never fit me, how am I gonna do this? There’s nothing my size — I always suffer.'”

She went on to explain that she “had a very bad case of imposter syndrome.”

“I still can’t believe it,” Hayek said. “I remember when I was young and hot, I used to look at this magazine. I wanted to see who was the new gorgeous model, the new girl of the moment. And it never crossed my mind that I could be on that cover because they didn’t look like me. My body’s not necessarily the model type and I never thought that was a possibility. And for it to happen when I’m 58? It’s really shocking.”

To help calm her nerves, Sports Illustrated Swimsuit sent Hayek “200 bathing suits” — though the Oscar-nominated star didn’t get to them all.

“I tried more than 100,” she said. “A lot of them needed to be altered.”
