Sam Nivola Explains Why Lochlan Ratliff Used the Dirty Blender in ‘White Lotus’ Season Finale

The White Lotus Sam Nivola is explaining Lochlan Ratliff’s near-brush with death.

In the Sunday, April 6, season 3 finale, Nivola’s character made a protein shake using a blender that his father, Timothy (Jason Isaacs), previously used to make a round of poisoned piña coladas to give to his family (except Lochlan). While Timothy ultimately didn’t give the toxic fruit-infused cocktails to his wife and kids, Lochlan used the same blender to make himself a protein shake the following morning without rinsing it out first.

In an interview on the Monday, April 7, episode of The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, Nivola, 21, explained his character’s thinking in that moment.

“I was expecting that Saxon had made a protein shake in it,” Nivola said, referring to Lochlan’s brother, Saxon Ratliff, played by Patrick Schwarzenegger. (Saxon regularly used the blender to make protein shakes in previous episodes.)

The White Lotus answered most of our season 3 questions in the finale — but not all. On the Sunday, April 6, episode, Rick (Walton Goggins) and Chelsea (Aimee Lou Wood) were revealed to be the guests who didn’t make it out alive. After crossing paths with Sritala (Lek Patravadi)’s husband again, Rick couldn’t stop […]

Nivola added, “I didn’t know… I thought it was just leftover protein. So I’m like, ‘You know what? A little extra protein never hurt anybody.’ I’m not that much of an idiot.”

In a separate interview with Variety published Sunday, Nivola explained that Lochlan likely didn’t realize he was poisoned.

“I don’t think so, because I think if he did, he would tell someone, and then they’d be talking about that on the boat home,” he said. “He just thought he got food poisoning or something like, which is not uncommon when you’re from America and you’re traveling abroad.”

Home appliance company Bosch also weighed in on the near-fatal scenes Monday, after one of its blenders was used on the show.

Bravo fans who thought the Ratliff family from The White Lotus feel familiar are onto something. Sam Nivola, who plays the youngest member of the Ratliffs, confirmed to People on Sunday, February 23, that creator Mike White instructed that they watch Southern Charm, which has aired on Bravo since 2014 and it chronicles the personal […]

“While we’re very appreciative of the creative flair and immense popularity of the show in the United States, BSH is clarifying that the Bosch product featured was not provided or placed by the company,” the brand’s parent company said in a statement obtained by TVLine. “However, we can confirm that the production team did purchase the product on their own while filming abroad.”

The statement added that the particular Bosch appliance used on The White Lotus isn’t available in North America and ““can only be purchased in other select global regions.” But Bosch said, “We appreciate the attention the Bosch brand is receiving as a result of this pop culture moment.”

The White Lotus is currently streaming on Max.
