  • Sarah Jessica Parker shares her reaction to Jenna Ortega wearing Carrie Bradshaw’s iconic newspaper dress to the premiere of Hurry Up Tomorrow
  • Ortega wore the dress on Tuesday, May 13
  • Parker wore it on season 3 of Sex and the City and Sex and the City 2

When it comes to Sarah Jessica Parker, any dress from Sex and the City is one to remember.

Two days after Jenna Ortega, 22, attended the Hurry Up Tomorrow world premiere wearing Parker’s beloved SATC character Carrie Bradshaw’s iconic newspaper dress, Parker, 60, gave her candid thoughts about Ortega’s take on the look.

The topic arose as the Associated Press spoke with Parker on Thursday, May 15, at the 2025 PEN America Literary Gala, where she was honored with the PEN/Audible Literary Service Award.

According to the organization’s website, the award is given to a “writer or advocate who has served the literary community through their words or work.”

After Parker was asked what she thought about Ortega wearing the vintage Christian Dior design, she said, “I didn’t know that.”

She then asked for clarification on “which season three dress” Ortega wore from the show, noting that she wore “100,000 dresses.”

The reporter confirmed it was a dress from Sex and the City, which ran for six seasons from 1998 to 2004, and not its sequel series, And Just Like That…, saying Ortega was “very proud to wear that,” making Parker smile.

“Aww,” said Parker. “I’m sure she looked perfect,” making a chef’s kiss expression.

In addition to wearing the dress in the SATC season 3, episode 17 “What Goes Around Comes Around” that premiered in October 2000, Carrie also wore it in 2010’s Sex and the City 2.

Ortega made a few subtle changes to the show’s styling of the look. For the red carpet on Tuesday, May 13, she opted to wear a small necklace instead of a statement necklace with a large pendant like the one that Carrie paired with the look. Instead of black open-toe heels, she wore strappy gold heels.

The Dior newspaper dress isn’t the only Carrie Bradshaw look Ortega channeled this week. On Tuesday, May 13, the Wednesday star arrived at the New York City afterparty for the world premiere of Hurry Up Tomorrow while rocking a look originally made famous by Parker on both Sex and the City and the red carpet.

Ortega wore a silky pink DKNY minidress inspired by the “naked” dress that Parker wore as Bradshaw in the first season and sixth episode of SATC, and later to the 1997 VH1 Vogue Fashion Awards.

Ortega’s stylist Enrique Melendez noted the inspiration source on Instagram Stories, writing, “Thanks for giving me my Sex in the City liiiife and playing along @jennaortega.”
