Sarah Michelle Gellar is giving her younger self a hug today.
Gellar, 48, shared a sweet childhood photo of herself at 6 years old, sporting a floral dress and gold paper crown, in honor of her birthday. The Buffy The Vampire Slayer star captioned the photo on Instagram, “Today I’m channeling this birthday queen … luckily it’s me!!!”
Several celebrities commented with birthday wishes. Gellar’s former Buffy costar, David Boreanaz, who starred as Angel in the hit teen supernatural show, wrote “Happy Birthday ❤️.”
“Ah!! Happy Birthday Sarah, you are indeed a 👸!!!👏❤️🙌,” Rachel Leigh Cook, who costarred in the 1999 romantic comedy She’s All That opposite Gellar’s husband, Freddie Prinze Jr., wrote. Gellar and Prinze Jr. share two children, daughter Charlotte, 15, and son Rocky, 12.
Brenda Song, who recently starred in the Netflix series Running Point, wrote “Happy birthday, Sarah!!!”
Gellar’s friends and former costars also shared Instagram Story posts in her honor. Jason Behr, who guest starred on Buffy and later costarred with Gellar in the 2004 film The Grudge, shared throwback photos from their time in Japan.
“Happy birthday @sarahmgellar. Hey…wanna go back to Tokyo soon?” Behr wrote. Gellar reposted his birthday wish, responding with “yes please.”
Fellow Buffy costar Emma Caulfield, who played demon Anya Jenkins on the hit WB show, shared a photo with Gellar to her Instagram Story, writing, “Everybody loves Sarah. It’s her birthday! love you mama. @sarahmgellar.”
In an exclusive interview with PEOPLE in March, Gellar spoke on her ever-evolving personal style in the years beyond Buffy.
“I think that there was a time when I worried so much about what was trendy and what people would think of how I looked in it, and I think now, I’m more invested in myself and wanting to try things that are different,” Gellar told PEOPLE. “And I think it’s been successful for me lately.”
Outside of acting, Gellar hopes to expand upon her fashion sense. She attended Paris Fashion Week for the first time in 2025.
“I’ve been going outside of my comfort zones, which is rare, I think, at my age,” she continued. “But I don’t know, maybe there’s a confidence that comes with age?”
Gellar starred in Buffy from 1997 to 2003. The show made waves for its empowering undertones, giving way to the young adult vampire genre of media that later made a resurgence in the mid-2000s. Gellar is expected to play Buffy again in an upcoming revival for Hulu.

It remains unclear which other Buffy stars will reunite in the revival. The original lineup of producers, including Dolly Parton, who was uncredited in the 1990s but participated through her company Sandollar Entertainment, is set to return. The reboot will be directed by Oscar winner Chloé Zhao.
“We’ve set up our offices, which means things are progressing probably faster than I’d anticipated,” Gellar told PEOPLE in March. “To do it the way it needs to be done, everyone has to be patient with all of us, because this isn’t something that [will just happen].”
