Sarah Michelle Gellar Says She’s Working on Her ‘Mental Health’ After Michelle Trachtenberg’s Death

Sarah Michelle Gellar is focusing on her physical and mental well-being while mourning the loss of her former costar Michelle Trachtenberg.

“It’s true what they say … girlfriends and exercise are good for your mental health,” Gellar, 47, captioned an Instagram video of herself working out Sarah Pidgeon and Chase Sui Wonders, who are set to star with her husband, Freddie Prinze Jr., in the upcoming I Know What You Did Last Summer reboot. “Just missing @madelyncline … and @jennkaytin …. and @samlansky …. and @realfreddieprinze.”

The group’s workout included using battle ropes, lunges, wall sits and weight lifting. The trio ended the day by sharing a hug after hopping into a chilly cryotherapy chamber while wearing winter hats and mittens. Gellar set her workout video to Chappell Roan‘s pump-up hit “Femininomenon.”

Wonders, 28, praised Gellar in the post’s comments section, writing, “4 ever inspired by you ♥️.” In a comment of her own, Pidgeon, 28, dubbed Gellar the “Cryo queen 👑.”

Sarah Michelle Gellar is remembering her late friend Shannen Doherty while also mourning the death of Michelle Trachtenberg. Gellar, 47, took to Instagram on Thursday, February 27, to pay tribute to Trachtenberg, who died at age 39 one day prior. Among the many photos of the two she shared via her Instagram Story, Gellar included […]

The post marked Gellar’s first Instagram upload since she reacted to Trachtenberg’s death at age 39. “’Michelle, listen to me. Listen. I love you. I will always love you’,” she captioned Instagram pics of the pair on February 27, one day after news of Trachtenberg’s death broke. Using quotes from Buffy the Vampire Slayer, she continued, “’The hardest thing in this world, is to live in it. I will be brave. I will live… for you’ 💔💔💔🗝️.”

Trachtenberg famously played the younger sister of Gellar’s Buffy Summers, Dawn, on the final three seasons of Buffy the Vampire Slayer from 2000 to 2003. The two remained close friends in the years since the show’s finale, as Gellar’s post featured both old and newer photos of herself and Trachtenberg.

Trachtenberg was found unconscious in her New York City apartment by her mother, Lana. At the time, police sources confirmed to Us Weekly that her cause of death was “not yet apparent” and that her death was not believed to be suspicious. The city medical examiner’s office told the New York Post on February 27 that her cause of death was listed as “undetermined” because her family objected to an autopsy.

Following the Gossip Girl alum’s death, multiple sources told Us that Trachtenberg had undergone a liver transplant not long before her passing. “We all knew she was sick, but we didn’t realize how sick,” another insider exclusively told Us last month. “For a long while, she had back issues and then bone problems; she fell a few times.”

A second source went on to claim that “something felt off” when they last spoke to Trachtenberg, stating, “You could sense something was going on when you saw her. She was really frail and had been sick for a while.”

Podcaster Amanda de Cadenet claimed in a February 26 Instagram tribute that Trachtenberg had FaceTimed her from a hospital bed prior to her death. (De Cadenet has since edited the post’s caption to remove mention of the hospital video chat.)

My thoughts are with Michelle’s family and friends.”
