Florida saw a rare weather occurrence on Sunday, Jan. 18, when snow fell in the Sunshine State.
Just before 8 a.m. local time, snow flurries dusted the Florida panhandle, with areas such as DeFuniak Springs and Ponce de Leon in Holmes County seeing flakes, as well as Walton County, according to the Florida Department of Transportation’s FL511.
Select areas of Alabama and Georgia also saw wintry weather conditions this weekend.

Winter storm warnings were previously issued ahead of the snowfall in Florida on Saturday, Jan. 17, according to The Weather Channel.
A freeze warning currently remains in effect for select parts of the state, as does a cold weather advisory, until 9 a.m. local time on Monday, Jan. 18, per the National Weather Service.

Last January, Florida’s panhandle saw a state record-breaking amount of snow, with some spots accumulating eight to 10 inches total.
Dubbed the Gulf Coast Blizzard, and later Storm Éowyn, it brought winter weather conditions to the Gulf Coast of the United States between Jan. 20 and Jan. 22, 2025.
Though rare, snow does happen in Florida. The first documented account of such was reported in 1774, according to Florida State University’s Climate Center.
Since 1886, there have been around 80 months when snow has been reported somewhere in the state, the college center added.
