Scarlett Johansson is already talking to her daughter about the dos and don’ts of dating.
“I just had this conversation with my 10-year-old daughter about ghosting ‘cause there was, like, a little boy that liked her, and then she wasn’t feeling the same,” Johansson, 40, confessed on the Thursday, January 23, episode of Today With Jenna & Friends. (The actress shares her daughter, Rose, with her ex-husband Romain Dauriac, as well as 3-year-old son Cosmo with husband Colin Jost.)
According to Johansson, Rose made the young boy feel “terrible” after she “just stopped talking” to him. “I introduced the ghosting concept, but it really makes the other person feel terrible about themselves,” she said. “It kind of sets them on this spiral.”
Despite empathizing with the boy, Johansson admitted that she has found herself in the same situation as her daughter. “I’m so that person that’s the ghosting person. I hate confrontation,” she stated.

Scarlett Johansson’s childhood dream of being a morning show host is one not many of her loved ones knew she had. “I cannot believe it,” the actress, 40, exclaimed while stepping in as Jenna Bush Hager’s cohost on the Tuesday, January 21, episode of Today With Jenna & Friends. “And more importantly, everyone in my […]
At the same time, Johansson revealed that she has been ghosted by others in the past and would much prefer an in-person breakup. “At least when you’re dumped, you’re like, ‘OK, it’s over,’” she told Today’s Jenna Bush Hager. “Honestly, being ghosted is awful because you’re just left with no answers at all, and you’re thinking, ‘Oh, my God. Did I do something? Did I push this person away? Was I weird? Was I creepy? Like, what happened?’ And it haunts you for years.”
Bush Hager, 43, agreed, stating, “We do need to teach our kids not to be scared of confrontation.” (The TV personality shares kids Mila, 11, Poppy, 9, and Hal, 5, with her husband, Henry Hager.)
Johansson went on to ask, “But how do we do that when we’re scared of confrontation?” to which Bush Hager replied, “We need to go to serious therapy.” She even joked that she and Johansson should go to “couples therapy” together.

Johansson has appeared on Jenna & Friends all week as one of the celebrity guest hosts joining Bush Hager following Hoda Kotb’s recent Today exit. Throughout her cohosting stint, Johansson has made several rare mentions about her family, even revealing how Rose reacted to her Jenna & Friends debut.
“I got a lot of comments. Well, my daughter watched the show. She’s 10 years old. She absolutely loved it,” she shared on Wednesday, January 22. “She was saying that the Death Becomes Her performance was, like, amazing. [She was like], ‘That woman [Jennifer Simard] was incredible.’ I was like, ‘Yes.’ So much fun.” (Broadway stars Simard, 54, and Christopher Sieber performed the song “That Was Then, This is Now” from the musical on Tuesday, January 21.)
