Scottie Scheffler Embraces Wife and Son After Winning the PGA Championship 1 Year After Arrest

Scottie Scheffler has a reason to celebrate at this year’s PGA Championship.

The professional golfer, 28, won the 2025 PGA Championship on Sunday, May 18 — one year after he was arrested at the very same tournament.

After sinking his final put to end -11 in a runaway victory, he walked straight toward his wife, Meredith Scheffler, and his young son, Bennett, embracing them both and giving his wife more than a few celebratory kisses.

(Scottie and Meredith married in December 2020. They welcomed Bennett in May 2024, one month after he won the 2024 Masters tournament — his second Masters win.)

According to the Louisville Metropolitan Department of Corrections’ inmate database viewed by Us, Scheffler, 27, was booked at 7:28 a.m. on Friday. He then took his son into his arms and once again embraced his wife, who was visibly emotional after watching her husband take home the win. After their prolonged hug, Scottie seemed to wipe away tears as he kept his son in his arms.

“Words can’t describe what we just watched,” Scottie’s father, Scott Scheffler, could be heard telling his son while embracing him following his win. His mother, Diane Scheffler, was also in attendance.

Scottie’s win on Sunday marks his first professional win as a dad.

Golfer Scottie Scheffler teed off on Friday, May 17, during the second round of the PGA Championship at the Valhalla Golf Club in Louisville, Kentucky. He released a statement before hitting the green. “This morning, I was proceeding as directed by police officers. It was a very chaotic situation, understandably so considering the tragic accident […]

Last year, at the same tournament when he was ranked the No. 1 golfer in the world, Scottie was arrested before play was scheduled to begin. The pro golfer was attempting to enter the Valhalla Golf Club in Louisville, Kentucky, at around 6 a.m. when police claimed he illegally bypassed the scene of an accident where a pedestrian was struck and killed.

Miraculously, Scottie made his 10:08 a.m. tee time despite being charged with multiple counts, including second-degree assault of a police officer and reckless driving. (Zander Schauffele ultimately won the tournament and the $3.3 million prize.)

Scottie later called the incident a “big misunderstanding.” On May 29, all charges against the professional golfer were dropped, per ESPN, after prosecutors decided to not move forward with the case.

After walking off the green with his young son in his arms, Scottie eventually attempted to hand the baby back to his wife, only to have his son continue to hold on, prompting one sports commentator to note that Bennett simply wanted to “stay with dad.”

The two-time Masters champion spent most of his time soaking in his latest win with his son in his arms. (He was, however, successful in returning the young tyke to his mother in order to accept the tournament trophy.) He finished the tournament five strokes ahead of the second place finisher, Harris English, who finished -6.
