Spaceballs 2: Mel Brooks, Keke Palmer and More Castings Revealed

Mel Brooks is heading back to the galaxy far, far away.

The actor is set to reprise his role in a new Spaceballs movie, Amazon MGM Studios announced June 12. The film will be released in theatres in 2027, just in time for the original 1987 Star Wars parody film’s 40th anniversary.

Mel teased his return in a Star Wars-style intro video on June 12 with text on the screen listing the countless sequels, prequels and series that came of many classic film franchises including Jurassic Park and Avatar. The text concluded with, “But in thirty-eight years, there has only been one… SPACEBALLS. Until now…”

The 98-year-old then appeared on-screen, wearing a black crewneck with the words, “Spaceballs: The Sweatshirt,” and said, “After 40 years we asked, ‘What do the fans want?’ But instead, we’re making this movie.”

Mel will be reprising his original role as Yogurt, according to the studio, which stated in a press release that “the title, plot details, and rest of cast are being kept under wraps.”
