Spencer Pratt Reveals He No Longer Has His ‘Got to Get Out’ Prize Money — But Where Did It All Go? (Exclusive)

Spencer Pratt was one of the 16 winners of Hulu’s Got to Get Out, which means he walked away with prize money — and that amount is already gone.

“That $40,000 went to taxes, a lawyer, manager and agent. I think even I had to buy the wardrobe that I took that wasn’t shirts [of my wife Heidi Montag],” Pratt, 41, exclusively told Us Weekly about the competition series, which is currently streaming. “I don’t think there was that much to invest into anything.”

Despite spending his winnings, Pratt says he’s still grateful for the “fun experience,” quipping, “They did provide three meals a day and as much caffeine as I could ever dream of.”

Got to Get Out follows a mix of reality TV contestants and non-celebrities living together in a mansion for 10 days while they compete in physical and mental challenges for $1 million in prize money. After Cynthia Bailey and Stein Retzlaff escaped with $312,060, Clare Crawley and Jill Ashlock exited early and the remaining 16 contestants ended up splitting the $687,940 prize, which earned them $42,996 each.

Whether competing on TV for a cash prize or simply being filmed while living your day-to-day life, reality television stars almost always get a paycheck — and it may be bigger than you think. While Pratt received — and spent — his prize money, his fellow contestant Omarosa had a different experience.

“I think Disney is good for the money,” she joked with Us, while revealing she has yet to receive her winnings. “I don’t expect that they’re going to stiff me. I play about a lot of things but I do not play about my money. It’s serious business with me, and I trust Hulu and I’m glad to be in a partnership with them. I’m grateful. They made a lot of concessions for me to be a part of the show.”

Pratt, meanwhile, still had a good time pushing himself to the limit.

“I couldn’t have prepared myself for how competitive trying to win $1 million really makes you and the adrenaline and the nerves because you’re also guarding the money. You’re under so much pressure, ‘That’s my money. I can’t let anyone take it,’” he recalled. “So I don’t think any [past] show prepared me for this because for this show you have to be switched on. Everyone is there for that money.”

Pratt continued: “It’s one thing to go on a show that’s already been airing. People will go on and they’re like, ‘Oh, I’ll get some clout off of this.’ But a show that you never heard of and know nothing about — everyone was there truly to get that money.”

The other highlight of having Pratt on the show was seeing him sporting shirts to support his wife. Pratt noted that he has always prioritized attire that promoted Montag’s music when joining new shows “the last six years.”

“I only had any other outfits because I thought you needed tactical survival outfits to break out of the house. If I had known that you’re supposed to just be able to walk out a door and trick everyone then I probably would’ve only had Heidi shirts,” he noted to Us. “I’m a little disappointed there’s any scene with me wearing just a plain shirt.”

Despite only having positive experiences from Got to Get Out, Pratt is still weathering the loss he and Montag sustained after their house was destroyed in the Los Angeles wildfires.

“It’s so intense. I don’t know if before our house burned down, I’d say yes to the show. But emotionally right now, there is a level of adrenaline that goes through you,” he explained before revealing whether he would recommend the show to Montag, 38. “But everyone’s really fighting for this money. Before our house burned down, absolutely. Now I think she should just stick to performing on tour and doing her music, which is so positive. This show is just insane.”

Got to Get Out is currently streaming on Hulu.
