Superfans Who Got Engaged at Miley Cyrus’ Album Party Reveal If the Singer Kept Her Promise to Them (Exclusive)

One couple got engaged with Miley Cyrus as their witness!

The 32-year-old Grammy winner released her ninth studio album, Something Beautiful, on Friday, May 30. Three days ago on Tuesday, May 27, TikTok hosted an event for superfans at Los Angeles’ Chateau Marmont. Cyrus invited fans she discovered through the social media platform to join her for “something special,” which turned out to be a surprise album listening party and live performance.

When superfan Axel Cazenave discovered he was selected for the event a few days before it took place, he had mixed feelings. On one hand, he tells PEOPLE he was excited to celebrate his favorite artist. On the other hand, he was “super bummed” that his fellow superfan boyfriend Easton Aaron Erosa hadn’t been chosen yet.

Cazenave flew from Miami to Los Angeles by himself, but when he landed he learned that his boyfriend of four years was suddenly selected to come too. Instantly, Cazenave knew that the album party would be the “perfect” place to propose to him because the couple would have never dated if it weren’t for them meeting at Cyrus’ concert at Summerfest 2021 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

“I was like, that’s it, I’m doing it because there’s no other way,” he says.

That Sunday, Cazenave went out and bought an engagement ring.

Not wanting to interrupt Cyrus’ show or steal her spotlight, Cazenave waited to propose until Cyrus finished her set with her song “End of the World.” Earlier in the party, he also got permission from TikTok workers, who helped facilitate his surprise.

“I stood up, and I was super nervous because you never know what’s going to happen,” Cazenave remembers.

Cyrus gave Cazenave “her full attention” as he shared his gratitude for the “Flowers” singer. She then asked him if he was “in love” with Erosa, who was standing next to him. “Super,” Cazenave replied before dropping down on one knee and popping the question.

“I couldn’t be happier that, like, [Cyrus] not only got to me the love of my life because of her industry and her music bringing us together. But then to be able to propose in front of her was literally the cherry on the top,” Cazenave shares.

As a “surprised” Erosa accepted Cazenave’s “iconic” proposal and the couple hugged, the crowd of fans erupted in applause, with Cyrus letting out a joyful shriek. Cazenave notes, “I love the way she screamed and then his reaction was perfect.”

“I’m gagged! Gagged!” Cyrus exclaimed. “You guys, go get a room! Put it on my bill. If you want a bed, I’ll charge it to my card!”

After the “beautiful” and “intimate” engagement, Cyrus’ team followed through with the pop star’s promise and asked the couple if they wanted to get a complimentary room. But Cazenave and Erosa “had to decline” due to “previous commitments with the [other] superfans” and an early flight the next morning.

“When we declined, they were like, ‘Don’t worry, we’ll have something more in store,’ or something like that,” Cazenave recalls. “Everything they’ve done already has been just so surreal.”

The couple — who dated long distance for a few years until Erosa moved from Hawaii to live with Cazenave in Miami — hope that Cyrus will be a part of their big day when the time comes.

“We’re definitely going to invite her to the wedding and if she could sing one little song that would just be super full circle,” Cazenave says.

“The [proposal] video is for sure gonna be on loop in our wedding,” he adds.

Cazenave “loves” Cyrus because she’s not only a great musician, but also for all she does for the LGBTQ+ community. She personally played a large role in helping him “come to terms” with his own sexuality. The fan grew up in Miami and admits that “being gay here is not the easiest” due to social pressure and isolation.

He was in his freshman year of college when Cyrus released her 2013 album Bangerz. Seeing Cyrus perform her songs as “her most authentic self” and “not caring about” what haters were saying “really resonated” with him.

“It was so inspiring that it made me realize, like if she can really do that and be her own self and thrive then why would I limit myself?” Cazenave tells PEOPLE.

The next year, Cyrus founded The Happy Hippie Foundation to support homeless youth, LGBTQ+ youth and other vulnerable populations, which made Cazenave’s admiration for the pop star grow.

“It goes beyond artistry with her,” Cazenave says. “…She not only sheds light on our community in the most positive way, but makes our lives better.”
