Tense Footage Shows Deputy Saving Dog Tied Up in Path of Growing House Fire

A local Michigan deputy rescued one dog as a potentially dangerous house fire erupted on Monday, Feb. 17, in Macomb Township, Mich., according to the Macomb County Sheriff’s Office (MCSO) news release.

A good samaritan called 911 and reported smoke and flames coming from the gas dryer in a basement on the 46000 block of Brentwood Street around 12:40 p.m. on Feb. 17. She said just before calling 911, she placed the family dog outside on its tether, adding that no one else was in the home.

Once deputies arrived at the scene, they put the caller in the patrol vehicle to stay safe. However, when they realized the dog was still tethered outside the home, Deputy Eric McCombs “rushed and grabbed a leash from his patrol vehicle.”

He ran to the side of the home and promptly secured the dog by removing the chain and placing a leash on it. McCombs and the dog rushed away from the house and into the street. He safely rescued the dog and put it in the patrol vehicle with the homeowner.

“The outstanding communication by Dispatch and the quick actions of the MCSO Deputies on scene ensured the safety of the two residents of the home and the family dog,” the MCSO said in the news release.

The home suffered significant damages, and the Macomb Township Fire Department was not able to save it, per the MCSO.
